The city's new payment system is shit by ASK_ME_AB0UT_L00M in baltimore

[–]rytis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It also depends on how RFQ's are reviewed. I've worked in government, and in contracting, on both sides of the fence, and I've seen RFQ's that are total bullshit, but have all the right "words." And I've seen review teams that are totally unqualified and have no idea what they are reading and scoring. And finally, 99% of the time the lowest bid wins anyway, and then you generally get what you paid for. Remember Version 1.0 of the Affordable Care Act?

For a city struggling to collect water bills what don't we have an auto payment option? by Opposite_Selection_3 in baltimore

[–]rytis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They could easily give you the option with autopay to stop if there's an increase of over 20% from the previous month, and notify you via email or text to affirm first within 10 days, or it proceeds with autopay, giving you a chance to investigate the issue.

My car was one of 4 honda cars on my street (Van Ness) that had the car window broken and the airbag stolen by jenkan4 in washingtondc

From the article, I wonder if it's the mechanics or their friends who are stealing them. $1800 profit sounds like an incentive.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. In my pre-season predictions, I penciled in losing to Buffalo. So we're on track. Buffalo has the #1 rushing defense in the NFL, and we just ran like 160 yards on them. Close game. Almost won. But if we have a rematch in the post season, I think we'll adjust. I worry about New York and Tampa Bay, but see us winning a majority of the 11 other games. Dobbins made me smile. Bateman dropping those wet passes worried me. Jets beating Pittsburgh was a nice consolation prize. That's where I am.

What’s going on with Medvedev on new regions can be defended with strategic nuclear weapons? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]rytis 95 points96 points  (0 children)

The Russians claim they have a new hypersonic missile (greater than Mach 5) that they can launch against Europe and the US, and it's nuclear capable. They have already launched it in Ukraine with a conventional payload. It's not really that great, based on a 1980's design. Yes it could hit targets in Western Europe, but with a 2,000 km range not sure it could reach the mainland US, though Sarah Palin's house would be in range. Yes, we have technology that could shoot it down. Would the Russians actually use it against NATO? Personally I think that would be stupid, opening a huge can of worms. And if they put a nuke warhead on it, shit would get real, real fast.

What is up with people saying that Ukraine is going to win the war? by DrSkoolie in OutOfTheLoop

There were reports and even a video of the Russian Wagner Group recruiting prisoners to fight in the war, with the promise that after 6 months, they would be let free. Many joined, and on first contact with the Ukrainians, surrendered. Nice Get Out Of Jail Now card.

And the mass graves the Ukrainians are discovering as they retake lands they initially lost to Russia. Turns out Russians were torturing and executing anyone they didn't like. And any orphans they discovered, they sent back to Russia to be "educated."
