About halfway through old-school shooter Quake 4, for instance, you get first-person captured and sent to the deeply unsanitary Strogg Medical Facility. It's less of a hospital and more of a fleshy factory for making more Strogg soldiers: a Borg-style mishmash of salvaged body parts, cybernetic doohickies and anger management issues.
Endured from a first-person view while you're strapped down on the Strogg Medical Facility production line, the process of Stroggification clearly focuses on being as unnecessarily long and painful as possible.
You'd think having your legs chopped off with a rusty sawblade was bad enough without also being stabbed in the gentleman's area with a giant needle for no adequately explained purpose. This would be a lot less traumatic seen from across the room, videogame, seriously.
Is it more or less harrowing than having the flesh burnt off your hands in Bioshock Infinite, or draping yourself with the limbs of your dead countrymen in Homefront's mass grave sequence? Or Outlast 2's axe to the groin? Who can say? Not us.

Since the day I got my Canon 5D HDSLR, I always wanted to shoot a POV style narrative film. From waking up, to eating, to driving, I wanted to fully embrace the idea seeing life in a way that we all do. Small narratives play out in our daily lives every single day, this is just my way of documenting it.
For this film I rigged up a Canon 5D MKII to sit right about where my neck is. Using both a belt and the supplied neck strap, I was able to steady the camera and maintain use of both arms to perform the actions in the film. I shot the film on the Canon 16-35mm at 16mm to produce the wide-angle effect. For the later scenes in the film, I used a Lensbaby Composer with Wide-Angle adapter.

This time on Fiction Focus, we're breaking down exactly what it takes to create a successful first person narrative, and talking through a few of the methods we can use to enhance the effect of our chosen perspective.
I sincerely hope this video helps a few of you out there who want to write in first-person, but might be struggling with certain elements of the process. There's a lot of info covered in a short amount of time though, so I'm open to making more videos in future that go into more detail about particular aspects, if anyone thinks that would be useful.

Sorry for not posting any videos for a long time. I've undergone a knee surgery a few months ago and recently got myself a GoPro camera, so I should be uploading videos more regularly now.
This is a short clip from a shooting session I had today testing this headmount and new camera. Draw, rack, shoot slow 5, reload, shoot fast five. Added some "hitcam" footage for all the people asking to see the hits in the last videos comments.
The pistol I'm using is a Jericho 941 FS, with minor trigger adjustments.

We just got back from a sailing trip through Turkey's Turquoise Coast. I also just got a GoPro for my birthday so of course there are hours of footage to go through, this is the first video as a test to learn Premiere Pro, I am currently editing a full version featuring the whole family.

First person (video games)
In video games, the first person refers to a graphical perspective rendered from the viewpoint of the player character. In many cases, this may be the viewpoint from the cockpit of a vehicle. Many different genres have made use of first-person perspectives, ranging from adventure games to flight simulators. Perhaps the most notable genre to make use of this device is the first-person shooter, where the graphical perspective has an immense impact on game play.
Game mechanics
Games with a first-person perspective are usually avatar-based, wherein the game displays what the player's avatar would see with the avatar's own eyes. Thus, players typically cannot see the avatar's body, though they may be able to see the avatar's weapons or hands. This viewpoint is also frequently used to represent the perspective of a driver within a vehicle, as in flight and racing simulators; and it is common to make use of positional audio, where the volume of ambient sounds varies depending on their position with respect to the player's avatar.

Since the day I got my Canon 5D HDSLR, I always wanted to shoot a POV style narrative film. From waking up, to eating, to driving, I wanted to fully embrace the idea seeing life in a way that we all do. Small narratives play out in our daily lives every single day, this is just my way of documenting it.
For this film I rigged up a Canon 5D MKII to sit right about where my neck is. Using both a belt and the supplied neck strap, I was able to steady the camera and maintain use of both arms to perform the actions in the film. I shot the film on the Canon 16-35mm at 16mm to produce the wide-angle effect. For the later scenes in the film, I used a Lensbaby Composer with Wide-Angle adapter.

I sincerely hope this video helps a few of you out there who want to write in first-person, but might be struggling with certain elements of the process. Sorry for not posting any videos for a long time. I've undergone a knee surgery a few months ago and recently got myself a GoPro camera, so I should be uploading videos more regularly now.
This is a short clip from a shooting session I had today testing this headmount and new camera. Draw, rack, shoot slow 5, reload, shoot fast five. Added some "hitcam" footage for all the people asking to see the hits in the last videos comments.
The pistol I'm using is a Jericho 941 FS, with minor trigger adjustments.

Is it more or less harrowing than having the flesh burnt off your hands in Bioshock Infinite, or draping yourself with the limbs of your dead countrymen in Homefront's mass grave sequence? Or Outlast 2's axe to the groin? Who can say? Not us.

Sorry for not posting any videos for a long time. I've undergone a knee surgery a few months ago and recently got myself a GoPro camera, so I should be uploading videos more regularly now.
This is a short clip from a shooting session I had today testing this headmount and new camera. Draw, rack, shoot slow 5, reload, shoot fast five. Added some "hitcam" footage for all the people asking to see the hits in the last videos comments.
The pistol I'm using is a Jericho 941 FS, with minor trigger adjustments.
Comment below if you want me to make a video of something in particular.
