Eagles - Watch r/eagles fly!
r/eagles
My dad died five years ago, about a year before SB 52. I'm almost 30 years old now, living in Philly for more than 15 years. I saw the Birds win the Super Bowl in a South Philly bar and ran out to Broad St. to celebrate. I had so much fun watching Tom Brady get beat, chanting "F*** Tom Brady" as loud as I could. My dad and I always hated Tom Brady and the Patriots. He would have loved seeing his Tom's face after the last play. The Eagles brought me so much joy that night. I cried multiple times. Super Bowl 52 was one of the best days of my life. I remember my dad talking about the Jets winning Super Bowl III in that way.
I was born in Newark, NJ and grew up there until moving to Philly in 8th grade. My dad was a huge Jets fan. I'd watch games with him growing up and was raised as a diehard Jets fan myself. But when I got to Philly, it was easy to get sucked in the culture and admiration for the Birds. In high school, I'd fiercely defend my Jets, but it became hard after terrible decisions by ownership, the butt fumble, and a string of awful GMs. I still root for my Jets, but Philly is my new home. I love it here, and I never want to leave this city. If you recognize my profile, I post to r/Philadelphia all the time and love this city.
My dad never disliked the Eagles. He hated the Giants because they were so much better and more popular than the Jets in north Jersey. He loved watching the Miracle at the Meadowlands 2 because he got to trash talk his Giants fans coworkers the next day. I still try to keep up with the Jets, but the Eagles give me so much more life. When I meet new people and they ask about my favorite team, I now say the Eagles. But my family and friends know I grew up a diehard Jets fan. The Jets would never give me the same joy.
So, I guess I'm trying to come with terms with this on a Friday morning, the anniversary of my dad's death. This is me, asking permission from the r/Eagles community, and maybe my late father in some way, if I'd be able to switch allegiances and permanently become an Eagles fan. Has anyone else switched teams? What to think about this?
Like most people, I remembered the 'no kicker, 2 points only!' game but forgot that Jake was actually injured in the game - he didn't miss it from the start. Jake has never before missed a game and has played in 91 consecutive games for the Eagles, second only to Jason Kelce (126). After Jake is Rick Lovato (71) and after that is Quez Watkins at 25 games.
Just thought that was an interesting fact, especially the huge gulf between the number of games between the third and fourth players on the list.
Get well soon Jakey!
