Chargers HC Staley: Cost for acquiring Khalil Mack was 'very minimum for a player of his caliber' by social_distant_joe in nfl

[–]bobsaget824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what would be the plan if he gets hurt before you trade him? Ya know, like last year? The entire point of moving him was to get his money off the books. That’s the big prize for the Bears. Rolling the dice so you can get maybe a 3rd instead of a 6th was not worth it. Especially since you’re rolling the dice on a 31 year old coming off of foot surgery - so odds of re-injury or new injury isn’t something you can just brush off.

The real mistake was not trading him prior to last year where his value would have been quite a bit higher prior to foot surgery, still 30, etc. And we’d not have had to eat the dead cap for this year. But we had a GM more concerned about saving his ass than making the correct moves for the future. If you’re going to be mad at someone for the return on Mack, be mad at Pace.

Facebook was out in 2006… my account is older than 2006… I got the receipts. Also maybe Steve Smith didn’t go from AIM to MySpace to Facebook like the rest of us but social media predates 2006. I am old. Carry on.

Yep, if he was actually worth 10M the Redskins probably would have either kept him or found a trade partner. So, will be likely less than that, just a matter of how much really.

You should go tell the Saints that, because they took on 11.5M in dead cap for a retired Brees last year and are going to be doing so again this year.

Not really, he made 3M from the WFT, as part of the trade the Dolphins paid him 6M in signing bonus. So he made 9M in guaranteed money last year in total.

He was due 10M this year which they didn’t want to pay, so they cut him.

Yeah, good thing they have no history of pissing off Rodgers with roster moves.

(via @BB_Bears) Quick look at our current roster, what moves should we make from here? by surpemepatty in CHIBears

If it was up to me I’d prefer our top priority be OL. I know the fans want WR, but I’d rather see Fields throw it and a WR drop it than to not see Fields throw it all because our O-Line is getting run thru. Especially given that our defense isn’t going to likely be very good next year and we will often be playing from behind, in obvious passing downs where the pass rushers are in hunt the QB mode.

Then after OL for me it’s really about best young talent we can find for our other many openings. If it’s CB great, WR great, whatever it may be from that point is fine with me.

Correct move to let him walk for that price but I swear to god if he turns out to have 11 TD’s and 1100+ scrimmage yards next year like our last return specialist we let walk… I’ll be officially miffed.

You don’t see the difference in a soon to be 30 year old Safety vs a soon to be 28 year old DT? Especially since the soon to be 28 year old is only on a 3 year deal… he will be a FA before he turns 31.

It’ll be funny when we draft some 6th year covid-year senior interior lineman in the middle rounds to be the starter in place of him who is actually the same age at 24, and people will say it’s about building with young guys for the future.

The #Steelers are signing OL James Daniels to a three-year, $26.5 million deal, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo. 💰 by pleasedontbingme in CHIBears

I think most people are hyper focused on offense because we’ve already invested a heavy price (draft capital wise) into Justin Fields. So, even though that wasn’t Poles pick it’s already done. And while we may not be filling all the holes in year 1 it’s fair to ask why we’d be starting with DT and not OL given that like I said our biggest investment right now is Fields. Protect him, even if it means our defense is shit next year allow him to develop with a solid O-Line, and plug the defense later. The off-season isn’t over, so we will see how it all shakes out but I don’t think it’s a big mystery why everyone is focused on the offense right now. If we had traded up and drafted Micah Parsons at 11 last year instead of Fields and were still rolling with fill-in Vets at QB like Dalton and Foles I don’t think anyone would care as much about the protection being the priority.
