DAVID SACKS. - The Neocons and the Woke Left Are Joining Hands and Leading to Woke War III by Morgan-of-JP in TheAllinPodcasts

Historically how does it work out when you try to appease a dictator's demands to let them freely conquer sovereign nations? They tend to be pretty reasonable people and don't continue on for more, right?

I'd recommend reading about perverse incentives. Putin is losing a war and threatening to use nukes. You want to reward him for threatening to use nukes. Congratulations, now we're living in a world with more nuclear threats and actually end up closer to a nuclear war than where we are today.

There are no great options when a dictator invades another country, but there are some obviously bad ones, and giving into their demands is clearly that.

I agree with David Sacks, this war isn’t worth a nuclear holocaust. by Joey-tv-show-season2 in allinpodofficial

[–]DERBY_OWNERS_CLUB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imagine having an argument that can be destroyed by reading the children's book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie".

Setting the precedent that Putin and other dictators can threaten to use their nukes and we cave to their demands. You think we're going to live under fewer nuclear threats by rewarding nuclear threats? Yikes.

No one has Putin in a corner but himself. He's free to fuck off back to Russia tomorrow.

how to handle a PM who asks for status updates periodically? by herbal_broccoli in ExperiencedDevs

[–]DERBY_OWNERS_CLUB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A status update isn't management at all... It's a request for information.

Micromanagement would be the PM telling OP how to do their work on what to focus on, which isn't happening here.

Do you really think if I ask my manager for the status on a task I'm micromanaging them?

I don't know if there's a gentle way to say this, but if you're so sensitive to a single IM a day that you'd consider rage-quitting your job, that's a major red flag for your ability to survive in a modern work environment.

Are you a new senior dev? It seems to me like you might be and you expect a certain level of "respect" and find people asking you questions disrespectful, which is a toxic and insecure attitude.

It's amazing how much respect Sacks is losing through all of this. "Give Russia whatever they want as they lose this war" is such a strange hill to die on.

What is your opinion on David Sacks recent tweet about Elon Musk and Ukraine? by Joey-tv-show-season2 in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]DERBY_OWNERS_CLUB 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Elon's proposed "peace deal" -

  • Ukraine doesn't join NATO (Russia wins) - pretty funny phrasing - "remain neutral"... not sure it's possible to be neutral after your country was invaded.
  • Russia gets to keep Crimea (Russia wins)
  • Falsely claims Crimea was always a part of Russia, justifying Russia's invasion there in 2014 (Russia good guys)
  • Force a vote in Ukraine to see what territories want to break off to join Russia (Russia wins)

Literally every fucking point of this "peace plan" is a gift to Russia. The more Sacks opens the mouth the more he looks like a Russian cuck. His only defense to his Russia stances are "WoKe mOb wOnT aLlOw diSsEnTinG oPiNioNs".

Imagine someone starting a war with your country and some dipshit across the globe says the invader should be rewarded by proposing legislation in your nation, lmao.

What is everyone’s opinion on David Sack’s viewpoint on the Ukraine war? by Joey-tv-show-season2 in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]DERBY_OWNERS_CLUB 15 points16 points  (0 children)

These talking points are very partisan and ignore the fact that Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea is what started the entire chain of events. We're not dealing with a peaceful or reasonable regime.

A. Ukraine war likely could have been avoided diplomatically

What was the diplomatic solution? Have Ukraine give up (even more) of their country to Russia because they want it? Have the US (and others) tell Ukraine how to decide the fate of their country? That's preferable?

B. US is not actively trying to solve the war diplomatically

For all but 4 years of the United States' history, we have done diplomacy behind closed doors (not on Twitter or through press releases) like every other country. Of course you're going to talk tough in public... it's a constant negotiation. They even acknowledged this in earlier podcasts and said talk gets the toughest right before a deal gets done. The real diplomacy is getting done through backchannels the same way it was in the Cold War.

C. US and NATO is open to Ukraine joining the alliance which is a red line for Russia

See point B. This is a bargaining chip. It might come off the table and Russia can claim that victory.

The rest of your points are all along the same partisan lines. Sacks (and the Right) wouldn't be making 90% of these claims if a Republican was in charge, and the Left would. There's very little honest criticism you can lay without knowing the facts behind closed doors which no one here (or on the pod) has.

Where are your sources for us encouraging Ukraine to not make a deal? What is the deal we didn't want them to make? Did it involve giving up their country to Russia? Is that something we should have been encouraging?

When's the last time you looked at an oil chart? Oil is now as cheap as it was before the war even started.

How does cutting off oil to Europe not benefit Russia? The Sacks conspiracy talking points have literally been for MONTHS now that they would do this as winter approaches to force Europe's hand. Why are you now accusing the Biden administration?

Can you respond with the basic facts on these matters?

Who sabotaged the Nord Stream pipelines? And why did a Peace Deal become that much harder? by All_in_tok in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]DERBY_OWNERS_CLUB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Remember at the start of all of this Sacks said the US wasn't even involved at all, France was running the show in the war and the US has lost its global standing in the world.

Then 2 weeks later, the US is at the center of the peace talks and refusing to let a deal come to be. Sacks is a pure partisan hack on this topic. I wish they'd just avoid it.
