Hi Reddit! I'm Holly Bastin, owner of Roast Ratings, former Barista Champion Coach and espresso expert at Curated.com. I'll be hosting an AMA on October 5th @11am CST to talk all things coffee and espresso.
A little about me- I've been in coffee since 1999 and in that time I've worn many hats! ⛑️🎩👒🥳🎓🧢 Barista, cafe manager, espresso trainer, espresso blend creation & management, consultant, competitive barista, head judge and, most notably, coach of 3 world champs 🏆🏆🏆💜🥰
And I'm down to talk about any or all of it 🤙☕
My favorite coffee job of all is helping folks get the coffee experience that THEY want 💜🙏✌️
You can chat out my profile and chat with me on Curated at - curated.com/e/holly.bastincurated.com/e/holly.bastin
Hope to see you there!!
Hi, we are the Scientific Advisory Board of the Food Packaging Forum, a diverse group of researchers investigating how chemicals in consumer products affect our health, green chemistry, plastic and chemical pollution, microplastics, endocrine disruption, and so much more!
The Food Packaging Forum (FPF) is a science- based NGO investigating how food packaging, especially packaging's chemicals, affects human health. FPF is organizing this AMA to provide the unique opportunity for Redditors to ask questions of a room full of scientists dedicated to this and related subjects. Participating scientists include:
Pete Myers, Leonardo Trasande (u/leotrasande), Olwenn Martin, Maricel Maffini, Ksenia Groh, Jane Muncke (u/BetterDecision8918), Martin Wagner, Lisa Zimmermann, Birgit Geueke, and more!
You may have seen FPF's research on r/Science in May which hit the front page: >1500 chemicals detected migrating into food from food packaging (another ~1500 may also but more evidence needed) | 65% are not on the public record as used in food contact | Plastic had the most chemicals migration | Study reviews nearly 50 years of food packaging and chemical exposure research
Proof! EDIT: Better Proof!
EDIT: We are heading out. Thank you so much for hanging out with us and asking such great questions! We hope to do this again! Bye!
EDIT 2: Hi All- It has been a few hours and I see more questions are coming in. Thank you for your continued interest! It's almost 11pm in Zurich so we are all heading to bed but I (Lindsey, FPF communications person) am copying questions into a document that I will email to the scientific advisory board to try and get a few more answers! Thank you for making this event a success!
EDIT 3 (10:30am Zurich):
Hi Reddit. Louis Theroux here, ready to answer all your most pressing questions about my new show Forbidden America, my career, the places I’ve been and the people I’ve met.
I’ve been making documentaries for 25+years from Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends to Forbidden America and it’s allowed me to travel the world and meet so many interesting people. And yes, you may also know me from my ‘Jiggle jiggle’ rap over on TikTok or working with Jason Derulo.
If you’re in the US or Canada, you can watch my series 'Louis Theroux: Forbidden America' on BBC Select: https://bit.ly/3y3hAKo

Edit: Thank you all so much for joining me today - I really appreciate all your questions!
The other border - a third gender struggle in the world's most militarized place
Hi Reddit! I'm Simone Mestroni, an Italian filmmaker and anthropologist. I’m working on a documentary project about the life conditions and the struggle for emancipation of transgender people in the conflict-affected territory of Kashmir. As you can imagine, there are quite a few challenges facing the transgender community in the area and it’s a topic I’m very passionate about raising more awareness around.
The film is now in the development stage and it's based on long-term ethnographic research I have been carrying out in the valley. I’m here answering questions together with my colleague and producer Luigi Conte. The project is part of the Documentary Campus Masterschool this year.
Ask us anything about the transgender community in Kashmir, about our filmmaking process, about the general issues we are tackling or the specific condition of this community in such a controversial context. Or anything else! We’ll be here to answer everything at 9pm Central European Time.
Hey! Time to wrap it up! Thank you for the really interesting questions and if you wish to ask I'll be back online tomorrow! Goodnight ;-)

Hey Reddit! Excited for my second AMA! I'm David Chan, concertmaster of the MET. I graduated from Harvard and Juilliard and have taught violin at Juilliard for almost fifteen years now. I also love golf!
Next week, I'll be performing as concertmaster of the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra in San Diego at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Edit: I have to run, but thanks everyone for the great questions!
I'm here to dispel some rumours about my fascinating subject area and demonstrate how maths is becoming an increasingly important tool in our fight to understand biological processes in the real world, as we’ve seen so pertinently recently during the pandemic.
I recently published a new popular maths book called the Math(s) of Life and Death which is out in the UK and the US. In the book I explore the true stories of life-changing events in which the application (or misapplication) of mathematics has played a critical role.
My next book, How to Expect the Unexpected, is about predicting the future. It’s all about how and why predictions go wrong with the aim of helping you to spot phony forecasts and give you a better chance of getting your own predictions correct.
On a personal note, I'm from Manchester, UK, so it's almost a pre- requisite that I love football (Manchester City) and Music (Oasis were my favourite band). I also have two young kids, so they keep me busy outside of work. I also have a website for both research and pop maths.
Proof: Here's my proof!
Thanks all, my time's up. It's been a blast. Please feel free to leave some feedback here: https://www.menti.com/alsm1ao6jy3h/0
Hi Reddit, I’m a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Wolverhampton University, where I’m a member of the Animal Behaviour & Wildlife Conservation group, working on the Marie Curie project The Enriched Primate - EnPrim.
My project focuses on the critically endangered Gentle lemur (Hapalemur alaotrensis) and aims to enhance the breeding success and welfare of captive lemurs using chemical communication to promote mating behaviours and increase reproduction in captivity. My research involves strictly non- invasive methods to obtain chemical, behavioural, endocrinological and microbiological data and it will contribute to the preservation of a species at very high risk of extinction with possible reintroduction into the natural environment.
If you are interested in talking about my research or just or just want to learn more about these wonderful animals, I will be on at 2pm (GMT 1) on Saturday 1st October, ask me anything!
Proof: Here's my proof!
Thank you for spending this time with me and for your interest in my project and these beautiful primates. I did not expect so many fascinating questions, it has been great to see so much interest! I am sorry I did not manage to answer all the questions, but I have got time constraints due to other commitments. If you want, you can contact me at s.fontani@wlv.ac.uk and follow me on Twitter at @SaraFirenze. I will be happy to address to any other question. Please do not forget to leave your feedback at https://www.menti.com/alsm1ao6jy3h/0 All the very best!
