FTAFFL 2018 Open Registration! by gimliclc in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These leagues run what is typically referred to as a "Slow Draft".

Each team will have a 6 hour clock (that pauses during sleeping hours) to make their selection. Once it's time to pick you will write up some brief reasoning behind the pick, and then enter your selection on the draft board.

Over the course of a draft you'll be exposed to a lot of different opinions about players you might not be as familiar with. A lot of people have found this extra insight helpful for their other leagues.

Chances Jamaal Williams becomes a featured back this year? by flmosinman124 in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

numbers Rodgers puts up on a yearly basis

It's very understandable, especially when you also take into account that most years the running game is pretty ineffective.

It's sort of funny to see people write off GB RB's because of the assumed lack of run plays while the fan base is usually complaining because McCarthy calls too many run plays.

[–]gimliclc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief, McCarthy loves having a solid run game

The whole idea that GB is a pass only team just won't go away.

Last year is really the only year that they truly gave up on running the ball, and who can blame them? Their only RBs on the roster were a receiver, and an October waiver wire claim.

Most years GB calls around the 10th most run plays as a percentage, and it's pretty rare that they fall outside of the top half of the league, like last year. They're usually comparable to teams like the Vikings, and Chiefs in terms of run play percentage.

They'll get opportunities to carry the ball.

Last year was also by far the worst in their called run play percentage.

They typically call around the 10th highest percentage of run plays in the league. Off the top of my head, I think they've only been outside the top 15 twice in the last 7ish years.

The recent numbers suggest the RB1 is Rodgers

That's also heavily influenced by all of their RB's that started the season getting injured.

With that said, I also won't be drafting any Packer RB's, but it's not due to play calling. Their run blocking was pretty mediocre last year, and I don't think they've made any improvements in that area. I also don't see Ty pounding it up the middle too often, which seems to be McCarthy's preferred type of back (Ryan Grant, Lacy).

I'm doing a live in person draft. Anyone know of a good app to use that DOESN'T have embedded rankings? by Stabeezy in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all the draft apps I've seen (Clicky Draft, Sleeperbot.com, Draft night) all seem to have embedded rankings in them

Clicky Draft allows ranks/projections to be hidden.

If you go into the generic "Settings" section of the league settings page, you will find options to disable rankings and/or projections.

Hey,

Are you having trouble starting the draft?

Near the top of the league settings page you should see an on/off toggle named "Draft Mode". You can turn this on to enable drafting on your board.

Clicky Draft Questions by MasterUnlimited in FFCommish

[–]gimliclc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clicky Draft developer here. Thanks for the mention /u/jcoakley !

I'll respond to the above post in your comment since you're more likely to find the response useful.

I don't think you can highlight rookies a different color (I'm not 100% sure here though), but you can highlight position groups different colors.

You can't assign them a different color, but you are able to quickly find them while researching your next pick. In the "Player Ranks" view mode there is a dropdown specifically for rookies that will list all the ranked rookies available.

There is no import, you have to manually enter them. This seems overwhelming, but it really isn't that bad. It goes pretty quick. I usually have my leagues draft manually entered same night.

That's correct. ESPN doesn't provide an API for this sort of thing and any workaround that doesn't require users handing Clicky Draft their ESPN user/pass wouldn't be very user friendly, so it hasn't been at the top of the priority list.. yet.

What about saving the history? I usually keep our draft board for a reference for the next year's keeper selection. Do the results stay on my account forever

Yes, they're available forever regardless of whether you're a free/paying customer or even reusing it. You can find your old boards through the left hand navigation: NFL 2017 -> Old Drafts.

The first drafts from 2012 are still available for viewing.

Edit: Also happy cake day! Just noticed after the fact

Outside of #1, where is the best place to draft? by fartonmyballsforcash in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much always prefer drafting right in the middle.

It's obviously pretty situational year to year on what kind of 1st/2nd round player I get, but I love being able to take advantage of falling players later in the draft. Those situations are less frequent the closer you are to the ends of the order.

Can someone explain ClickyDraft? by ScurryKlompson in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that something that will get implemented in the next couple of weeks

Possibly if there is time, although I wouldn't rely on it. There are a few other things I'm trying to wrap up first, but eventually it will be added.

Can someone explain ClickyDraft? by ScurryKlompson in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not initially.

Since I'm running a little behind, I'm trying to cut some corners where I can. Auction was a pretty tempting corner to cut for this initial implementation. A lot of the backend code is already in place for custom auction values, but it hasn't been implemented all the way through.

That's actually what I'm working on right now, but it's taking a little bit longer then expected. Once released everyone will be able to create two rankings lists and assign different privileges: private, share with commissioner, share with league. This would allow you to use a different set of default rankings for your league.

One option you can use is to disable the ranks through the generic "Settings" section of the league settings page. This will hide all of the fantasy pros references throughout the board.

However, this might be the nuclear option since it wouldn't display any ranks anywhere.

Creator of Clicky Draft here...

Clicky Draft was originally created for what I would describe as "hybrid" draft where some people are in a physical location, while others remote in. It is an online tool built for offline drafts.

The commissioner is able to make picks for every team, and you could optionally give other people control of a team by sharing the "Invite URL" listed towards the top of the league settings page. Most leagues end up using a single computer at the physical location (either commish enters picks or people walk up to device) while having remote members make their own selections.

The goal has always been to give the commissioner as much control and flexibility as possible, and at this point Clicky Draft can accommodate lots of different setups.

If you ever run into any questions please feel free to PM me through reddit, or send me an email through the site. Reddit responses can end up being a little slower if I'm not on Reddit much that day, but email should reliably get you a pretty quick response.

Are there any auction value calculators that take into account keepers? by peeblanket in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this.

I've been using this sheet for 2-3 years now for my auction league and it does an excellent job of taking inflation from keepers into account, among other things.

Please discuss Randall Cobb with me. by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't fully bought into the idea that Cobb isn't as physically skilled as he was a season or two ago, but he also has significantly more wear then other 26 year olds.

He was the first player born in the 90s to play in the NFL, and has taken some pretty good hits over the years. Was used on kickoff/punt returns for a while, used as a RB, frequently takes hits up the middle, and has had his share of injuries. Wouldn't surprise me if there was some truth to those saying he's physically reclining.

defenses came up with a new game plan to defend Green Bay and its given them problems ever since. They rarely blitz, play a lot of man coverage, jam everyone at the line when they can, and frequently drop safeties down to Cobb and have them jam him

That is spot on!

Once every defense started doing that it really took them until half way through last season to start figuring it out, and I think that was mostly due to Rodgers level of play then anything else. The core problem is still there and not going away this season.

Please discuss Randall Cobb with me. by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]gimliclc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless Green Bay can add a deep threat to keep secondaries honest

This is true to some extent, but I think the bigger issue is a up front.

Teams no longer call single high, stack the box, or keep LBs/corners closer to the line. Instead, they just focus on defending the receivers. This forces those receivers to win one-one.. It also limits the opportunities to pair Cobb up with a LB/S since corners aren't being pulled up front for run support.

As for bunch formations, pre-snap motions, and overlapping routes I haven't personally noticed a drop. I've rarely seen them stack receivers, so I guess that is one tool they aren't using.

Cobb might have lost a step or two, but I think his biggest issue is a shrinking field from both ends, and IMO the lack of run game is the biggest reason for a drop in productivity.

Sponsoring free leagues with cash prizes for /r/ff! by gimliclc in fantasyfootball

Pretty sure my previous attempts made minimal use of javascript, thinking that I could get by with mostly CSS/HTML. My next attempt I'll just force it to look the way it should.

[–]gimliclc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly a little more difficult then I originally thought.

My first attempt was thwarted by IE issues, and my second/third attempts didn't play nice with the ability to change the pick width/text height. The solution is going to be a little bit more involved then I originally anticipated.

Yes, I'd like to make another attempt at that change at some point this pre-season.

Right now I'm running a little behind trying to finish up custom ranks, and some other features. Once these are pushed out, I'll try to tackle this before moving onto auction improvements.

They don't have to be too deep.

For the most part people are just looking at your reasoning. It could be as simple as:

I was looking to get at least one player from my school and John Doe was looking like my best chance

At the end of the day, most people are trying to help each other out. If you could provide some additional insight into your own picks that could help them, and vice versa.
