Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
He’s still not super old (77), but I feel like Danny Devito will be a contender in the coming years
Hey everyone! I’m currently in my last semester at uni, will receive my four year bachelors degree. I’ve been learning Japanese through classes taught here and really enjoy it! I want to learn the language even more post-graduation, so I’ve been looking into language schools based in Japan (for immersion). My goal is to spend some time learning the language and then look for work in Japan afterwards (If I am unable to find employment, I would be fine with returning to my home country).
Some things to note: Money is not an issue, I have a very good amount in my savings and have my parent’s financial support for moving costs. I have not had a full-time job yet, but I have done internships and volunteer work revolving around my major/interests. I’m looking around the greater Tokyo area. I’ve been learning Japanese for approximately 2 years, so I have some experience with the language.
Any advice, opinions, or school recommendations are highly appreciated!
Sophia's semester long program I got accepted to as a person that has graduated, just needs 2 LOR, a 3.0 GPA, and a statement of purpose. But I have done their intensive program over the summer. The class size is like 20ish depending on level for Sophia's summer program, and idk class size for the non-degree programs
As for University of London SOAS, U-London is a relatively known school and the second year of the program is done at Sophia. You get an M.A from U-London, and you get an M.A. from Sophia University. So though you may not have much recognition form getting an MA at U-London SOAS, Sophia would probably have sufficient respect on it.
The only reason I'm considering U-London SOAS is on recommendation form an advisor
That does sound pretty appealing, though I’m unsure about London as I haven’t done any looking into it. I’ll keep it in mind while I look!
EDIT: Sorry...I didn't pay attention to which subreddit I was in. I'm in quite a few for Japan and I thought you finished Uni on a visa in Japan but you're looking to move to Japan.
I'd suggest that unless you want to eventually pursue grad school (taught in Japanese) or pass the JLPT N1/N2 within 12-18 months that you choose a school with a slower pace and focus on speaking. I went to both types of language schools in Japan. 1 year at a school with a heavy emphasis on progressing towards N1/N2 certification and 1 year at a school with a focus on speaking. The speaking schools produce students with much much better speaking ability. The only exception are students who attend the testing schools and spend lots of their free time trying to speak Japanese.
The pacing at the test focused schools usually makes this very difficult. You end up spending a lot of your free time trying to understand things that currently confuse you. Most schools don't offer tutoring at the school. If you don't understand something you'll have to ask your teacher. The problem is when you start you don't know enough Japanese to ask questions. This is true even at the lower intermediate levels. Most schools don't have a resource to bridge this gap and most teachers absolutely don't want to speak to you in English even if they can. They believe it hinders your learning.
The best part of the language schools is the social life it brings you in Japan. It accelerates that process so fast. The main reason people who move to Japan for work or cultural appreciation is they struggle to find friends and create a social life. Language schools almost never have this problem.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about language schools in Tokyo. I'll help if I can.
An important consideration is your visa situation. You should speak to the language schools about whether you can actually get a student visa for the language school after having had one for university.
I did 2 years at a language school and my understanding, which could be wrong, is the only way to stay longer when in a Language School was to go to university or grad school (in my case). I don't believe there is an option to do it the other way around.
A secondary consideration is that if you intend to live in Japan long term none of your time on student visas count towards permanent visas status or qualifying for the pension funds you'll inevitably pay into if you haven't already. I was pretty disappointed to find out that if I continued in school none of that time counted towards getting a permanent residency visa.
If this is what you want to do I hope you are successful. I found language school to be best at creating a social life for me. I didn't love how they taught Japanese. It can get you results but you have to work hard to speak outside of class. You don't get nearly the amount of practice you really need to be good at Japanese in these schools. I'd recommend not choosing a school that's focus is on prepping you for Uni or JLPT. They have the least emphasis on speaking as a skill.
Really appreciate the response! From what I have gathered online, I would be able to get a student visa (I’m still going to double check to make sure)
I also hope to do 2 years of study and even if it doesn’t count for permanent residence which does suck, it isn’t necessarily a big concern for me.
I’ll keep looking. Thanks!

I am so surprised nobody has mentioned a possibility of an Overwatch rep. You have to remember these characters were decided a long time ago (Blizzard is NOT doing well right now lol) so someone like Tracer would not be unlikely IMO. Also Overwatch got ported to switch not too long ago so it just raises the possibility.
I've talked about it a fair amount, and if we get one, I suspect it will be D.Va, not Tracer.
D.Va is much more popular across all markets, and would also present a more interesting design than Tracer, and Sakuri apparently digs that.
Blizzard and Nintendo are on good terms, and OW2 is coming out (presumably on Switch), as is D2 Resurrected and D4 eventually. There's a business reason for it to happen.
D.VA would be a really creative choice. I feel like we could maybe get like a samus/zss brawl theme where the final smash swaps them in and out of their suit.
English is actually not more spoken than Spanish. I think a lot of people forget a vast majority of South America speaks Spanish, but you may be right about Hindi and Mandarin.
That actually makes sense. I have been fed lies my whole life
Looks like I’m the one who’s been fed lies…
Oh shit
