Hi

I am trying to figure out how this desk was mounted into a wall of a commercial building. My goal is to remove this desk to make space for a massage chair but I am running into difficulties with figuring out how this desk was mounted. I was thinking to remove the black metal bit I would need to cut into the drywall quite a bit but to avoid that I was thinking it would be easier to just cut the metal protrusion, file it so that it is flush with the drywall, repair the drywall, and repaint.

Basically I have a plaster magic repair kit and I am going to stabilize the plaster around the holes with conditioner and adhesive. Then I need to get a new piece of lathe or wire mesh in to support my plaster repair. But I only have a stud on one side of the hole. Should I just screw the lathe to the stud on one side and that's good enough? Or should I just friction fit some wire mesh in there? Or should I expose more lathe or potentially stud to stud, fix a large section of lathe and then do the plaster repair?

We removed a floor to ceiling mirror and discovered a awesome stone (clad?) wall behind it.

I have very little to no experience with DIY - I've done some painting on walls and have restored some furniture, but nothing like this. I have no idea where to start.

Initially when we found the stone, we decided to just paint over it, creating a textured, but fully painted wall. The more I look at it though, the more I want to try and salvage some of the stone colour and texture and rather do a white-wash or lime-wash?

Firstly though, I need to get the glue and black stuff off the wall. I've tried ISO alcohol which did nothing. The best success sofar is slowly chipping it off with a scraper, but that can damage the stone. Any other suggestions? I'm afraid of thinners, since I'm not sure if the stone is porous and would absorb the oil based solvent? The stone and grout does seem to be sealed with some type of varnish, so I have no clue.

Secondly, would you recommend a white-wash (diluted paint) or a lime-wash? Would something like a diluted chalk paint wash work? Maybe even just runny grout? Would I have to sand down the wall roughly to remove the varnish/sealant?

The wall isn't in a high traffic area, so it doesn't really need to stand up to knocks and bumps, but I would like to do a decent job and not just slap a bandaid on a gunshot wound.

Any and all advice would be much appreciated and any YouTube vidoes even more so. If you guys can even just help me figure out what terminology to google I'd be stoked!
