These tests are, of course, good for figuring out if you have COVID. And, as importantly, they're also good for helping make sure you're not infectious with COVID before gathering with friends and family.

less than half (45%) of all nursing facility residents and less than a quarter of staff (22%) are up to date with covid vaccinations. That is a sharp drop from the 87% of nursing facility residents & staff who completed their primary vaccination series.

Reminder: in year 1 of the pandemic, nursing homes accounted for >50% of US COVID deaths. The data regarding the protective value of booster doses for those >65yo is clear. The top thing we can do to prevent deaths is to ensure this high risk pop is boosted.

New: Without more money, COVID vaccination will soon be commercialized (like the rest of health care). Based on announcements from Pfizer and Moderna, the prices for vaccines will be 3 to 4 times higher than what the federal government negotiated.
