Months from now, I fear we are likely to see flags repurposed as kitchen towels and cleaning rags. And then the birth of a new phenomenon: celebratory videos of regime thugs beating up defenceless people for desecrating the flag.

I so wish your predictions were wrong. They won’t be. Sadly for all of us. The word erosion is coming to mind today. What has not eroded - secular foundations, institutions of justice, and now the sanctity of the flag?

After all this country saw a fortnight back that a poor Raddiwalah lose his job because he had somebody’s supremo and his alter ego’s portrait in his raddi !! But I wonder if allegiance is towards the fascist leaders or the nation?
