People who don’t like the word queer are people who don’t want to be othered by society and like that’s fine but also this society sucks and hell yes do I want to align myself against it
And like, to be clear, when I say “society” in this post, I don’t mean like “society…man!” society. I don’t mean like “We live in a society” society. I’m very specifically talking about the context in which I exist, which is individualist, heteropatriachal American capitalist white supremacy. Nothing exists in a vacuuming and the queerness that I’m talking about is a queerness that exists in the context of and in opposition to all of those ideals.
If America is hierarchical, so then queerness is equal. If America is cutthroat, then queerness is caring. If it alienates you from your bodies, then queerness adores them. If it is beige, then queerness is colorful. If it is cold, then queerness is warm. If it tries to silence, then queerness is loud. If it is zero sum, then queerness is mutual. If it fears the other, then queerness celebrates difference. And if it teaches you that you must justify your worth, then queerness’s love will be unconditional.
YES THIS DAMMIT.
