In Mexico, when withdrawing pesos from a USD account, most ATMs will will give you an accept/decline screen for a conversion rate and conversion fee, on top of the ATM fee. The fee is high and the conversion rate is very poor, often a whole peso or more less than the rate that your card processing network or bank will give you. It implies that you have to accept to retrieve your cash. You do not.

Declining will use the processing network (Visa/MC) or your banks conversion rate, whichever your bank uses. Most I believe use the network rate. This can save you a ton of money, even if you are just vacationing for a week.

Before buying something on Amazon Prime Day, do a quick internet search to make sure an item is actually on sale. Amazon is adjusting prices on items to then discount them to the original price. For instance, the Xbox Series X is currently listed as 16% off ($499.99 with the discount) and they are claiming the original price is $592.97. The original price is actually $499.99. You aren't saving anything.

My girl and I went on a holiday recently. My girlfriend has a life-threatening allergy and an inconvenient one. We had a friend write a short warning about both, including the possible consequences, in the local language of our holiday destination.

I made two cards, one credit card sized, one postcard sized and laminated them. The credit card sized one as backup, but we never used it in the end.

This made a huge difference when ordering food. Just show the card to the serving staff. Usually they will take it to the kitchen. After a while they return with a list of safe options for you to order, or the cook will come and discuss how to adapt food for your allergy.

We had a 10 day foreign holiday without a single food allergy related incident. Not a life-changing thing to do, but just one less thing to worry about: clear communications about dietary requirements.

My job requires me to do some work at the customer's home, and while some of my peers don't mind someone watching them, they all hate when a customer "tries to help us out" by doing some of the work we're supposed to do.

We have methods, metrics and goals that we have to abide by, and accomplish. If you end up messing something up, now we as the employee are blamed for it.

On a similar note, if you have a pet, don't assume that we're okay hanging around the pet, we don't want the pet hurting us, or us hurting the pet. Please put it in a room or cage. Also please don't ask if we're okay with the pet, just put it away. Many companies will fire employees for working in the vicinity of a pet as it may cause a liability.

You know how old people are always complaining about it being cold? It's even worse for older cats whose normal body temperature is between 99 and 102.5 degrees depending on the cat.

I've got a pair of 18 year old cats who spend much of their days happily lounging on different heated surfaces.

There are many tons of safe and inexpensive options on the market. Running a low temperature heated bed around the clock costs pennies and can make your kitties happy.

Okay, so the people that know this, it seems fairly obvious. But I'm a cashier and the amount of times I've seen a social security card in a wallet is alarming. If you lose your wallet, this means the wrong information can get put into the wrong hands very easily. From your ID, the person will have your full name, D.O.B. and full address. Add your social security number and that's so easy to get into various accounts/steal your identity. Just don't do it, there's not much reason for it, as you only need your SSC in very specific situations, and you'll most likely know of those situations in advance. It's so easy to lose a wallet. It's not that easy to lose a drawer from your bedside table.
