Hi guys. I have a wall mounted metal shelf that I’m wanting to spray paint black. I can remove the shelf from the wall no problem. It’s in a bedroom, so no rust.

My question: Do I need to sand the shelf with fine grit sandpaper to help the spray paint bond to the metal? I thought this was the purpose of a primer? So, can I just apply a spray primer before the black spray paint, or do I have to do both?

I’ve tried looking online but I’m getting conflicting information; it also probably doesn’t help that I am a DIY novice so perhaps I’m misunderstanding terminology. I thought a primer would help with the spray paint bonding to the metal, and some sites are often talking about spray painting outdoor metal furniture and speak about sanding the metal to remove rust, not to help the new paint bond.

I think I’ve just gotten myself confused and any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

A family member worked on the water heater but didn’t drain the sediment from bottom first. Now the hot water pressure is pathetic and little more than a trickle.

Since the damage is done already... how do I flush sediment, or anything else, back out of the water lines? Taking the shower head off didn’t help.

Editing to say :

-I already removed the aerator from the kitchen sink. It helped with the cold water but not the hot.

-I tried removing the shower head and ran it without for 30 seconds to a minute to see if it helped. It didn’t, so I put it back on
