By the way, it looks like the instructions I linked in my original post were from 2016, and DID indicate that you need to slake. Must have been a different formula, perhaps one that isn’t as rapid setting.

The instructions I linked in my comment just now are from 2021, and are the most recent ones.

The instructions on the back of the bag (#4 and #5, here) quite literally say to mix for 4-5 minutes and then “spread immediately”, which is what I did. If I had allowed this to slake it would have been a nightmare. I barely got 10-15 minute of working time out of it as is.

I got great results, just finished up.

Thanks. I ended up settling on a 4:1 ratio as well and it worked out perfect. I can’t imagine doing this at 3:1. A floor, MAYBE. But no way a shower wall. That’s basically liquid.

I will really never ever understand how couples who are married can function with separate finances. I get that you say it “works” for you (clearly it doesn’t because you came here writing this post). But to me if two people can’t work out how to play on the same team and combine finances as a couple that’s a huge red flag. Where else are you unable to work together? Also sounds like your wife has trust issues she needs to work out.

As others have stated, tenants responsibility. And if they really are pushing back hard otherwise, rethink resigning with them.

Additionally, stuff like this is exactly why I don’t allow ANY drilling or nailing into the walls of my units of any kind. Command strip hooks only, or if they want something larger hung, I come by and do it myself. It’s written in my lease. Not feasible for some landlords but highly recommend if you can swing it.
