#WOMXNWHOPLAY TALKS: Representation of Women / Media Coverage Within The Sports Industry

Location: Boxpark Wembley

7:00pm — 9:00pm

As part of our #WomxnWhoPlay campaign we are hosting a series of panel talks with our very own ‘first 11 women’s team’ of sports ambassadors. We are putting women from all different sporting backgrounds front and centre, highlighting their journey and achievements whilst inspiring the younger generation to get active. The panel will be hosted by Sian Anderson and Anita Abayomi and powered by Girls Talk About.

The aim is to encourage female participation in sports and our programme will educate young women on ways they can pursue their passion for sports, whether it be on the pitch or in the studio.

“40% of all sports participants are women, yet women’s sports receive only around 4% of all sports media coverage. And, of that limited coverage, women are often objectified or demeaned.” (UNESCO)

“Less than 14% of sports journalists are women, only 4% of sports media content is dedicated to female athletes, and less than 2% of c-suite executives in major-league sports are women.” (Gender Economy Org)

During this panel talk, our panellists will be discussing whether they believe media coverage is biased towards male sports and how they think we could change or improve representation of women in sports in the media. They will also be discussing whether they think men and women will ever be portrayed as equal in sports.
