Hi again Reddit! My last AMA was a blast (as was the one before that), and it was fun ranting about short sellers with all of you. Now I’m back, with a rant of a different kind.

I’ve spent my life helping to build non-lethal weapons and wearable technology like body cameras. A few years ago, I wrote about this work in a book called THE END OF KILLING, and then wrote a companion graphic novel. In the graphic novel, I thought about a school shooting scenario—and imagined how drones and non-lethal weapons could protect people.

At the time, it was just an idea. But after Uvalde, my company was fired up, and we’ve started working to make the idea a reality. A lot of people feel like there should be some other answer to these events, and that technology might help.

I know drones in schools can sound nuts. Except that it can’t be any crazier than another mass shooting in a school. Obviously, there are complicated issues at stake, but the best place to start is to listen to what people think and answer questions.

Hence this AMA! So have at it, and as always, happy to talk about other things in my field or in the world in general.

Edit: Thanks everyone! Really good questions here, and it gave me a lot to think about, which I really appreciate.

My name is Chadwan Al Yaghchi, I am an ear, nose and throat surgeon. Over the years I have developed a special interest in transgender healthcare and I have introduced a number of voice feminisation procedures to the UK. This has included my own modification to the Wendler Glottoplasty technique, a minimally invasive procedure which has since become the preferred method for voice feminisation. Working closely with my colleagues in the field of gender affirming speech and language therapy, I have been able to help a significant number of trans women to achieve a voice which more accurately reflects their gender identity. Ask me anything about voice feminisation including: What’s possible? The role of surgery in lightening the voice Why surgery is the best route for some How surgery and speech and language therapy work together

Edit: Thank you very much everyone for all your questions. I hope you found this helpful. I will try to log in again later today or tomorrow to answer any last-minute questions. Have a lovely weekend.

Hi, Reddit! I’m ready to do an AMA today, Friday 6/2 from 7:30 to 10:30 Pacific Time. Got questions?

My name is Joaquín Beltrán and I am running for Congress in Southeast LA. I am a progressive grassroots Democrat who doesn’t take any money from PACs. Find me on Twitter and Instagram @joaquinlife and https://www.joaquinbeltran.com

LOCAL FROM BIRTH

I was born in Unincorporated East Los Angeles and moved to Downey when I was 10. While in East LA, I lived with my grandparents, aunts, and uncles, all in a small house. Early on, my parents worked hard at their jobs, my mother as a seamstress at a sweatshop and my father as a machine operator. Thanks to their hard work we moved into our own house a few blocks away. My parents worked for the American dream by starting small businesses; my siblings and I joined them and learned the value of hard work. When I was a teenager, our small family business got uprooted through eminent domain. In the process of finding a new location my mom got sick and I eventually dropped out of college to help run the family business. I remember one of my first moments of advocacy at age 17 when I stepped up at the Downey City Council to urge the council members to approve my mother’s plans for her new business.

SMALL BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

Writing and music were my first love, and when the new business and location were approved and my mom got sick, I had to pause my work toward my music degree to help run it. During that time, I got involved in the civic process of the city as an advocate and volunteer while working full-time. The experience gave me renewed purpose to continue helping my community, which I've been doing ever since through politics, engineering, and community organizing.

SPEAK UP AMERICA

I built Speak Up America to help people make their voices heard so politicians can be responsive to what matters for real people. Through Speak Up America, I’ve helped organize communities during the pandemic to advocate for better COVID policies and launched campaigns to bring high-quality masks and rapid tests, combat climate change, and helped organize webinars to create safer environments for schools during COVID.

Hi Reddit! My name is Chang-Hsu (張旭), and after getting my master’s degree in mathematics and teaching calculus online, I realized I could reach a wider audience by uploading videos of my (SFW) calculus lessons to Pornhub (link SFW). Today, my lessons on things like things like the Differential Extremum Method and the Theorem of Limit Operations have garnered millions of views and much discussion, not just on Pornhub (link nsfw) but also TikTok and Youtube as well. I just finished filming a new series of lessons with the help of Lena Paul, Lena Anderson and other helpful models that may assist in your calculus skills.

I'm here to answer any questions you have about math, teaching calculus on Pornhub, and anything else -- AMA!

EDIT (3:00pm PT): Thanks everyone for the great questions! I'll reach back on the site later tonight and try to answer more!
