I’m from like the middle of Alabama and confederate flag stuff has been considered goofy slack jawed redneck since 1999. Can’t believe people are so adamant about keeping it around lol.

If anyone tries to tell you the Confederate Flag is not about racism remind them of The Cornerstone Speech. Where the VP of The Confederate States clearly declared that black people were created by God to be slaves to white people. This was a few weeks before the Confederates attacked Fort Sumter. There is no record of anyone interrupting the speech by saying "WTF Alex? We just want state rights."

I think it's dangerous to allow corporations to marshal what opinions you can and can't see, so while I don't think this is an excuse for racism, I do think this kind of rhetoric is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. People shouldn't be so fucking eager to cheer privatization of censorship because that same argument is what allows facebook to shape people's moods and opinions. Also, there's no transparency into the process so that outsiders can confirm that in fact someone was actually banned for a good cause. People cheer now because it suits their agenda. Just wait, because that shit comes back around full circle when corporations start banning people for pushing unions or things they don't like and feel the zeitgeist will tolerate. If you let corporations control the public square, don't be surprised when that comes back around to bite you in the ass.'

edit: If a company's main purpose is to provide a platform for other people to broadcast and communicate among themselves and not the company itself, they're not a fucking store. They're a public square and should be subject to a different set of regulations re: censorship and privacy. It's like you can see where regulations one one might be useful but somehow can't imagine how a corporation could abuse that power in a way that you might not like. I think that's the definition of myopic. If anyone can get an account, they're also not a publisher. Social media is a different beast and it's insane that a supposedly tech savvy group of people wouldn't get that.

Nirvana’s former manager: ‘Claims that Kurt Cobain was murdered are ridiculous. He killed himself’ by clonetheory in Music

Look I'm an old fart and Nirvana fan so I was around in back in the day. He OD'd on Rohypnol and Champagne in Rome a month before his death. He went into a coma and they feared for his life. He openly talked about joining the 27 club to the media. So when he died it was not a surprise at the time.

I 100% believe he was alone in the house with the shotgun and he pulled the trigger. I believe he was a troubled individual with mental health issues he was self medicating with drugs that were actually making things worse. Upon saying that I don't think Courtney Love helped the situation. The Rome incident happened the night she got back together with him after 40 days apart, and she almost for sure brought him the Rohypnol. She enabled his drug habit and worsened it. And her mental instability and general drama behavior made his mental state worse. Just like Sid & Nancy I don't think Nancy killed Sid (obviously she was dead) but I don't think they worked well as a couple, to put it mildly.(Courtney actually had a weird Nancy Spungen fascination.) So I don't think Courtney pulled the trigger or forced the Rohypnol down his throat. Or had some "hitman" do it. Do I think Kurt might still be alive if he wasn't with Courtney, ya maybe, especially if he found some one mentally stable and dedicated to actually helping him. Still, people tend to self-select.

'Weird Al' Yankovic Is Finally Getting the Graphic Novel He's Always Dreamed Of by QuicklyThisWay🎼🎵🎶🤘 in Music

I like this era of Weird Al's career. Just victory lap after victory lap of celebration for his career. A pinball machine, a self indulgent tour of just his originals, a biopic where he's played by a shredded Daniel Radcliffe, and now a graphic novel of his greatest hits. It's all completely deserved and a fantastic way to reward the fans who have kept him in the popular culture for nearly 50 years

When people say music was better in the past, it's because they only remember the good stuff by [deleted] in Music

I read something very similar to what you read. I found the article I read and the link is below. It came out January this year. I thought it was very interesting. It said that old music accounts for 70 percent of the US music market.

I remember when the new music was what was popular not old music. That's what's changed. The article says that new music isn't necessarily worse than old music it's just not being discovered especially by the music industry which wants to play it safe. I agree with this since I have found some great music by digging hard on the Internet. But, I didn't have to work that hard in the past to find good music.
