r/CozyPlaces Rules
Rule 1 - Community Policy (Remember the Human)
Behind the screen, there's another human. Keep this in mind when posting or commenting.
1.1 Karma Minimum
/r/CozyPlaces has a karma minimum for commenting and posting. We will not give specifics about the number. But, it's a combination of post and comment karma and isn't that high for people who regularly use Reddit. It's our best defense against trolls and spam. If you are having issues posting, just give it time.
If you don't understand how Reddit karma works, you can read more here.
1.2 Constructive Criticism vs. Insulting
Constructive criticism is a helpful way of giving feedback that provides specific, actionable suggestions. Rather than providing general advice, constructive criticism gives specific recommendations on how to make positive improvements. Constructive criticism is clear, to the point and easy to put into action.
- Constructive Criticism of the design, decor, and/or space is allowed.
- Unhelpful, insulting comments regarding spaces are not allowed.
- Derogatory or jealous comments regarding an OP's financial status are not allowed.
- No politics. There are plenty of other places on Reddit for that.
- Mature, adult discussion regarding rental/property prices is allowed but please keep it civil.
- No gatekeeping "cozy". Cozy is subjective, please remember that.
- Linking to a subreddit or creating a subreddit as a veiled insult is not allowed.
- Sexual or creepy comments are not allowed.
Some subreddit mentions and trigger words related to the above points may be automatically removed.
1.3 Be Civil
- Name calling, rude comments, or otherwise inflammatory behavior will not be tolerated.
- Bigotry towards someone's race, gender, sexuality, culture, etc. will not be tolerated. This includes using slurs or hate-speech. This is an LGBTQ+ friendly space.
- Discussions involving history / culture and current events are allowed, but are monitored for civility and facts. -- Any information or advocacy regarding Covid-19 that goes against the CDC Guidelines is not allowed.
- No witch-hunting, harassment, stalking, or doxxing. Any attempts to witch-hunt, posting someone’s personal information, or expose their location, will result in an immediate permaban and is explicitly prohibited by Reddit’s reddiquette. Doxxing includes giving out street names and naming and/or linking specific buildings via real estate websites or google maps. If you are experiencing harassment by community members, please provide usernames, links, and screenshots to /r/CozyPlaces mods via ModMail and also Report Abuse to Reddit. We take this matter seriously.
1.4 Keep it SFW
- No jokes or threats of suicide, physical harm and/or violence.
- No sexual or lewd comments or in-depth discussion of bodily fluids / sexual functions.
- No comments regarding hard drug use. Hard drugs include pill and opioids, for full definition click here.

2.2 Focal Points
A focal point is the subject of your photograph; this is the main focus or where your eye is drawn to. For instance, the focal point to this photo is a cottage.

Animals are allowed, but they cannot be the primary focus of a photo. Likewise with other focal points of a photo such as a cup of coffee, food, objects on a shelf/desk, books, nature etc.

3.1 How to Write Your Post Title
- Descriptive only of the room/space in the picture.

If you wanted to share the backstory behind the post, you may share additional information in the comments section of your post.
3.2 What to Avoid in Post Titles
- Post tags like [OC] or indication the post is OC in the post title, do that in the comments
- Clickbait: ("sob stories", questions, or any other wording designed to grab the reader's attention instead of describing the photo-- this includes typos or innuendos and too much personal context)
Clickbait title examples:
- "It's not much, but it's mine." (Or any version of "it's not much...")
- "Do sidewalks count as a cozy place?" (Questions)
- "First place on my own place after being homeless." (Too much personal context)
Rule 4 - Content Must be Sourced
How to Properly Source Your Image:
📌 if Original Content 🡲 Flag as OC (or) Comment "This is OC" in the post comments within 15 minutes of your post. Alternatively, if you use the words "my" or "our" your post will automatically be flagged as OC.
📌 if Copyrighted Image 🡲 Provide the original source link of the photographer or artist in comments within 15 minutes of your post.
📌 if Repost 🡲 Use Google Image search to make sure it has not been posted in /r/CozyPlaces within the last 6 months. You must also provide the original source link (see above) and flair "Repost".
4.1 Original Content
If you own the image you are posting, please flag it OC like this or type "This is OC" in the comment section. Do NOT indicate Original Content in post title, it will be removed.
You may include your social media, website, or art portfolio in the comment section of your post. However, the following are prohibited.
Do NOT:
- Put your social media or website in the post title
- Claim a photo is OC when it is not-- this will result in permaban for karmafarming.
4.2 Content You Do Not Own
We ask that if you do not own the image, you please link back to the original photographer, artist, designer, architect, or builder. Your link must be the original posting of the image, not just the website.
All content that you do not own must be flaired "Sourced [Not Original Content]".
We do NOT accept:
- False claims of ownership in post titles, comments, or by marking as OC.
- Posting the source in the post title, that is considered advertising.
- OC indication in your post title. Do not put OC in your title. (example: OC or [OC])
- Linking just the instagram / profile / website of the source. You MUST link the specific original source link of your photo.
