New Chromebooks were "revealed" in January. When the heck can you buy one? (About to give up waiting.) by LudovicoSpecs in chromeos

Yeah, they had in stock for about a week or so. I think they had about 15-20 when I purchased. These sell out quickly I suppose.

Would a Chromebook suit my use case? by NimzyStranger in chromeos

[–]Random_Fotographer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From you use case, it should work. I also have a highly speced work provided MacBook pro. However, ever since I got my Chromebook, I use it for everything, including work.

My use case is that I mostly use the web. Websites, Google doc/sheets, Google Keep, Gmail etc. I don't use many native apps. The only app I used extensively on the Mac was adobe lightroom. Since Chromebooks can run Android apps, I just use the android version of Lightroom on my Chromebook. Plus, since the play store is available on Chromebook, you can use most android apps. I have installed apps like FB, YT music, Tidal, Deezer etc to the point I don't miss anything.

I do feel Chromebooks might be best for people who are in the Google+android ecosystem. Then it just feels like an extension of my phone with laptop capabilities.

Scored a i5 Acer spin 713 on eBay for $80 by Corbin_Dallas550 in chromeos

[–]Random_Fotographer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used a 2020 i7 version at work and I was so blown away by it that I purchased a 2021 i7 version. It is my most used device in the house. I have stopped using my 16 inch MacBook pro with 32 GB of RAM. That's how much I love my spin 713 (11th gen core i7, 16Gb RAM, 256 SSD).

The fan on the 2021 model is slightly more audible while the 2020 model was whisper quiet. So the 2020 model has some advantages. $80 is a steal. Enjoy your Chromebook!

Acer Chromebook Spin 713, or Asus Chromebook Flip CX5? by AxeSpray in chromeos

I have the Acer spin 713 with 11th gen core i5 and 16 GB of RAM and absolutely love it. I understand it is not the same spec as yours.

Best Premium Chromebook? by freedomismycrack in chromeos

[–]Random_Fotographer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dragonfly looks good. But I have the Acer Spin 713 with 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD. A comparatively spec'ed dragonfly seems to be touching $2500 while mine cost $1000. I am very happy with my Spin 713 and am really wondering how much better the dragonfly will be with that kind of a premium in price.

Issues still with Acer Spin 713 (2021) by BaconOfWar66 in chromeos

[–]Random_Fotographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then I think we both have the same "issue". Mine also runs. It is not terribly loud but it is very different compared to the 2020 model where the fan hardly ever ran. If you've never used the 2020 model then you'd probably not even notice that this as an issue in the 2021 model.

Is it the 2021 model? Which processor? Is the fan running but quiet or doesn't run at all?

I have the same problem with the 2021 spin 713. It is the 11 gen core i5 version with 16GB RAM and 256 GB SDD. The fan is always on. It is not terribly loud, not still noticeable.

I had the older 2020 model with 10th gen core i7 and it was always dead quiet. It was a joy to use.

The 2021 version is still a great device and I absolutely love it, but it breaks the illusion that this is a quiet phone/lablet like device. It reminds you that it is a laptop.

I really really like my Acer Spin 713 with the 11th gen core i5 and 16GB for RAM. About $1000 on Amazon.

ARRGH: New Shield Pro, Help?!? by wBuddha in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]Random_Fotographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nothing but great experiences with the Shield. I own two Shield Pro's and one Shield. I don't use Plex, mostly use it for streaming. I use it with a Marantz 7010 receiver and a Sony oled tv on my main setup.

Did you try changing the password? If someone hacked you account, someone could be streaming using the web player.

I don't have any issues on my Volvo XC90. Is loudness normalization off?

Anyone noticed that Tidal sounds differently than other music services? by Akedon in TIdaL

[–]Random_Fotographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear no difference. Try with loudness normalization off, if you haven't tried it. It is on by default.

Is the Qobuz app really this bad? by [deleted] in qobuz

[–]Random_Fotographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have the same experience with slow loading. Not just that the play back is slow (which I can expect with the 24/192 files, but the app is slow in general. Loading the home screen and other screens.

The sound quality was good, but I couldn't hear any difference with Tidal. Given that it lacked features like Tidal connect, app for Nvidia shield etc, Tidal seemed like the better option for me.

tidal hi-fi is better than deezer hi-fi by XLhayden in TIdaL

[–]Random_Fotographer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I very closely did A/B testing myself. There is no difference while using headphones or Chromecasting to my Nvidia shield. If I use the built in apps on the Shield, Deezer actually sounds much better, but I think that is because of how the tidal app does loudness normalization. On casting, there is no difference.

I have both Tidal and Deezer. They both sound the same to me on my audio system and headphones.
