Sean McCann (actor)

Sean McCann (born September 24, 1935) is one of Canada's most successful character actors and has been in the business for over 40 years. Winner of the prestigious Earle Grey Award for his lifetime achievement in television, Sean McCann has appeared in over 150 movies, television shows and plays.

Notable roles and awards

McCann can be seen in The Law of Enclosures, with Sarah Polley and Diane Ladd. He has appeared with Meryl Streep (...First Do No Harm), Nick Nolte (Affliction) and Chris Farley (Tommy Boy). He has shared screen time with Brenda Fricker and Miranda Richardson in Swann (for which McCann received a Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role Genie nomination), Nicolas Cage in Trapped in Paradise, Kevin Bacon in The Air Up There, Sam Waterston in A House Divided, Peter Weller and Judy Davis in Naked Lunch (which garnered a National Film Critics Society award), Brooke Shields and the late Al Waxman in What Makes a Family, and Kurt Russell in Miracle. He appeared in the movie Hank Williams: The Show He Never Gave (made for Canadian TV, December, 1980).

Sean McCann (politician)

Sean McCann (born 1971) is a former member of the Michigan House of Representatives, who represented the 60th district. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

Personal life and education

McCann graduated from Western Michigan University in 1993 with a degree in political science.

Career

McCann served on the Kalamazoo, Michigan City Commission for ten years, starting in 1999. He was elected to the Michigan House in 2011.

In 2013, he proposed the creation of an independent commission to draw legislative districts in the state, in order to help prevent gerrymandering. He worked for the Kalamazoo Red Cross and the Vine Neighborhood Association.

In 2014, he ran against Republican Party nominee Margaret O'Brien and Libertarian Party nominee Lorence Wenke for the 20th district seat in the Michigan Senate. He lost to O'Brien after a recount widened from 59 votes to 61 votes.

Séan McCann "The Shantyman" (born May 22, 1967,Carbonear, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada) is a singer and musician (playing bodhran, shakers, tin whistle and guitar) in his former band Great Big Sea. He announced plans to stop touring with the band at the end of December 2013.

Early life

He was born to Anita and Edward McCann. His mother was born in Northern Bay and his father in Gull Island. When he was a child, his family moved to St. John's where he still lives today. He was raised Roman Catholic. He is married and has 2 sons.

Career

He met up with his former bandmates at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where he left his pursuit of a Master's degree in Folklore unfinished when Great Big Sea was formed.

McCann is an avid fan of world-music. His tastes vary from Bob Marley to Coldplay. Proof that he is a fan of Bob Marley is shown through his two beagles, Tosh and Marley. McCann used to write a blog on Great Big Sea's website, http://www.greatbigsea.com/, in the eyes of Tosh the dog. Tosh recounts his doggy endeavors while accompanying the band on tour.
