Lauren Witzke was among a handful of congressional candidates with white nationalist ties who campaigned on an explicitly anti-immigrant “America First” platform in the hopes of pushing the Republican Party to the right. Although Witzke was trounced by incumbent Senator Chris Coons (D-DE), she has continued to promote the racist “America First” movement and court the support of white nationalist figures.

In early October Witzke appeared on a livestream with Peter Brimelow, the founder of the white nationalist hate group VDARE, where she complained that “we are giving our country away to foreigners” and called Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) a “Third World dictator.” And on November 28, 2020, Witzke made a guest appearance on Happy Homelands — a YouTube show hosted by white nationalist Paul Ray Ramsey.

According to an SPLC profile, Ramsey has “uploaded hundreds of liberal-loathing, feminist-bashing, and racial separatist-supporting videos to his personal YouTube channel” since 2009. In a video from 2012 Ramsey donned an afro wig and mocked a Black college student by making ape noises. And in one from 2014, Ramsey told his viewers a “parable” in which he likened African-Americans to snakes.

And on Twitter, Ramsey’s rhetoric comes just shy of Holocaust denial.

Ramsey has called the Holocaust the “modern religion of the West” and the “modern version of the Passover,” for example. “The Holocaust is the modern secular religion,” he tweeted on another occasion. “And these ‘memorials’ are temples.” In another tweet Ramsey asked, “How can there be so many [Holocaust] survivors? Is every Jew that age by default a Holocaust survivor?”

During the interview, Ramsey noted that Witzke has continued to be one of President Trump’s most steadfast supporters. Indeed, Witzke still insists — against all evidence to the contrary — that Trump actually won the 2020 presidential election. When asked if she believes there was a “realistic” chance for Trump to still win, Witzke claimed that the “media’s done a really good job trying to tell us that it’s hopeless and that Donald Trump lost.”

She told Ramsey that she believes “the election will be overturned,” adding that she doesn’t believe “the American people are going to accept the results of the election — the rigged election.” Witzke referred to the 2020 presidential election — which Joe Biden won by over six million votes nationwide — the “biggest coup in United States history,” and said she is “ready for people to go to jail” before her audio cut out.

In response to a viewer question about handling the “smear merchant media,” Witzke went into a Trumpian tirade against journalists, calling them the “enemy of the people” and “practically criminal.” When discussing the coverage of her own campaign, she complained that she had been labeled a “white supremacist” and a “junkie.” Witzke’s campaign was marred by connections to white nationalists and antisemites.

She also lashed out at right-wing outlet Fox News for supposedly turning on President Trump. Fox News called Arizona for Joe Biden on election night, and Fox host Neil Cavuto cut away from White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany as she began spewing lies about the election results. However, the tone of the network as a whole has not shifted leftward, and Fox News will not, as Witzke predicted, “hop on the Biden bandwagon.”

The network has repeatedly pushed debunked conspiracies about the 2020 presidential election and cast doubt on the official results. Opinion hosts like Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity have falsely claimed the election was some how not “fair.” Its so-called “news side” fares little better, often backing President Trump’s ridiculous legal challenges to the election results.

But that hasn’t stopped Trump and his supporters from condemning the network’s occasionally responsible coverage.
