Taurus Season Is Here. What to Expect Based on Your Sign

Strap in. The first two eclipses of the year are just around the corner.
Taurus Season 2022 Horoscope What to Expect Based on Your Sign

Taurus season 2022 has arrived. It’s time to touch earth and be still after the fiery rush of Aries month. Taurus brings a funky floral goth sort of energy to daily existence, so why not eat some grapes and look at earthworms?

This particular Taurus season, however, may bring earthquakes for some signs. The first two eclipses of 2022 will happen within the next four weeks, upending stability even amid the time of the deepest rooted sign. On May 10, Mercury goes retrograde for the second time in 2022, scattering any hard-won semblance of steadiness to the wind. Pluto also goes retrograde on April 29 and remains backwards for the remainder of May, which may cause a difficult emotional dance for signs coping with grief in the middle of the month.

Still, suffering during Taurus season somehow just feels a little more elegant than pain experienced during other times of year though, doesn’t it? Read on to see what fate the stars decree for your spring!

Taurus

A new moon and partial solar eclipse hit Taurus on April 30, rattling the fixed earth sign with a tectonic wave of initiative energy. Both astronomical phenomena represent beginnings, astrologically. Recalcitrant Bulls would be wise to spend the remainder of April thinking about life changes you’d like to put in motion before external events shake up your circumstances in more unpredictable ways. Freaky Uranus remains in your constellation throughout your season, which may manifest as flashes of brilliantly unorthodox inspiration in managing new happenings in your life, or — particularly after Mercury goes retrograde in mid-May — cause absurd mishaps and communication meltdowns. Probably both!

The full moon in Scorpio on May 16 will shine brightly on you, Scorp’s sibling sign, illuminating the damp root cellars of the soul you’d typically rather keep dimmed. Just as you’ve taken a good look at whatever it is you’ve been storing unused in your mind-cellar, the first of 2022’s total lunar eclipses hits: this is when the grief associated with letting go of what you’ve recently given up will make itself felt. Don’t let the heavy feelings make you doubt your choices! Nostalgia and regret merely demand their due respect before leaving you to pursue fresh paths unhindered.

Gemini

On April 29, your sign ruler Mercury comes home to hang out in your constellation. Then, on May 10, Mercury goes retrograde. Congratulations! Of all the signs, you win the most chaotic Taurus season of 2022.

The double tap of fresh energy brought about by the new moon and partial solar eclipse will affect all signs, if not to quite the same extent as Taurus. Geminis function on Big Ideas and bursts of whimsy to see them through, and therefore need to be even more discerning than other signs to choose which initially excellent seeming inspirations from the universe are actually actionable instead of just, like, a cool fleeting thought. Is it really the plot for your next novel, or is it just a funny tweet? Apply that discernment to everything your brain says to do throughout early May.

Mutable air elemental that you are, you’re unlikely to be brought to your knees by the full moon in fixed water Scorpio like most of the other signs. Don’t be surprised if you receive interest from someone with strong water placements in their chart in mid-May; they crave your seemingly carefree ability to fly lightly, especially given their own clinging resistance to change. If this ends up being you and you’re into it, have fun! But watch out for their intensity: don’t let them turn you into their Mercury retrograde “mistake.”

Cancer

Dwarf planet Ceres isn’t one of the standard astrological bodies that’s considered in every chart by every astrologer: it’s a relatively new astrological (and astronomical!) consideration. It enters the constellation of Cancer on May 15, however, and that means we need to talk about it.

Upon discovery in 1801, Ceres was originally thought to be a planet, then in 1850 it got demoted to asteroid status.  Ceres lives in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It’s so much larger and so different from its traveling rock companions, however, that in 2006 it was again reclassified as a dwarf planet. Only 1/14 the mass of fellow dwarf planet Pluto, Ceres nonetheless makes up a whole quarter of the total mass of the asteroid belt all by itself. It’s the only dwarf planet located in the inner solar system! It’s named for the Roman goddess of fertility, crops, motherhood, and the harvest. Astrologically, for present-day non-farmers, Ceres is all about Mommy Issues.

Cancer, this column generally aims for light-hearted entertainment, but let’s get serious for just a second. The full moon in Scorpio on May 16 is liable to swamp you, along with your fellow water signs, in deep waves of grief. If you have or have had mom relationship problems, if you have lost your mom or mother figure, if you are a mom coping with the ongoing threat to children in the COVID-19 pandemic or persistent governmental attack on your childrens’ rights and safety, if you are any or all of the above, or more: please, please be gentle with yourself this spring. The hurt and sadness you feel is something huge and overwhelming you are part of, rather than a tameable, compartmentalized part of you

I wish you all the joy and comfort the season can offer you.

Leo

With a little luck, the coming month should be kind to Leo. You love a reinvention, and the new moon/partial solar eclipse at April’s end provides a chance for you to launch a controlled burn on the supportive ground of Taurus season. Step lightly during Mercury retrograde, as usual, but remember it’s not targeting Leo in particular this spring. The woes in your life for the next four weeks probably won’t even stem from your problems, per se, it’s more that many of your family and friends — and your neighbors, and your coworkers, and random people you run into in the grocery check-out — are going through it, which of course affects you, too. Keep chipping away at your own projects and fanning the flames of your passions, offering support to those around you when you are able.

Full moon and total lunar eclipse in Scorpio could go either way for you. How these mid-May phenomena will impact you depends on who you’re close with, but it’s important to remember that you have a certain element of choice as to whether to refrain or join in yourself. If you do decide to lean into the mood of the third week of the month, you have the capability to lose your shit even harder than anybody else. You could go full Midsommar May Queen if you want to at this point; it’s likely to get to that level if you really let it rip. Think about it first before you decide to commit. Melting down on that level can be exhausting, and it’s hard to limit collateral damage.

Virgo

This month might be a little aggravating for you, Virgo. You’ve got a good grip on things, as always, but you’re no fan of unpredictability and Mercury retrograde is going to unleash it on everybody. The water signs in your life are liable to be extremely chaotic in the run-up and aftermath of the season’s two eclipses … hell, the air signs will be, too. It’s really frustrating for you to be surrounded by messy disorder you can’t control and disarm.

Tap into the season’s grounding earth energy and conserve the bulk of your energy for yourself this spring. Don’t totally abandon your friends or anything (as if you ever could), but remember that grown people of other signs are, contrary to behavioral evidence, actual adults who can manage their own problems. You don’t have to fix everything for everybody all the time!

Libra

May’s Mercury retrograde will also be aggravating for Libra.  You can spin up a huge amount of anxiety over fear of being misunderstood or misinterpreted. But before we reach that point, the new moon and partial solar eclipse at April’s end should offer an opportunity for a real sense of renewal and fresh drive. If you’ve been feeling stagnant — a terrible sensation for a cardinal air sign — don’t despair! You should be able to breathe more easily soon.

Center yourself with that sense of freshened purpose when Mercury slides backward in May, and try not to let any friction with other personalities consume you. Listen to a lot of music, too, even more than usual (which, given the amount of tunes you already consume, may entail a few 24-hour cycles of non-silence). Song is so important for your psyche during times of revelation, and will keep you moving in the directions you most need.

Scorpio

Oh, Scorpio. Balanced across the great zodiac seesaw from your sibling sign, Taurus, you’re in for the earth-shaking tremors that the new moon and partial solar eclipse will bring at the end of April, followed by great crushing waves of feeling, reckoning, contextualizing, and processing when the full moon and total lunar eclipse crash in your house in mid-May.

You’re a slow-rooting succulent in even the stablest of times, and once established, reluctant to relinquish security in order to grow. You’re not a big fan of experiencing change, though you’re weirdly great at it: you just go so hard on it, agonizingly internalizing the entire process, feeling unmoored throughout, longing for the time when you will have re-coalesced into the next new version of yourself. When you finally get there, though, you’re there; you have truly CHANGED. You’ve done it, you’ve adjusted to life events and self-actualized yet again … just in time to have to do it all over again for the next stage of life, usually. Real caterpillar shit, but it’s the only way you know how to do it.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius handles Mercury retrograde better than most of the signs. Sag hates to be bored. Mishaps, miscommunications, missions to right even self-inflicted wrongs—that’s just fun for the average Archer! Even when you’re irritated, you’re sort of enjoying it; unexpected tumult makes you feel alive.

The same principle holds true for the season’s new moon, full moon, and associated eclipses. You don’t fear endings, and beginnings energize you. Use your strange centaur superpowers and move easily with the obstacles life throws at you this month: that’s how you prefer to make discoveries and uncover fresh opportunities.

Capricorn

Ah, dear Capricorn. To explain where you’re at, we must briefly harken back to the forecast for your sibling sign Leo. “If a Leo,” as the prophecy foretells, “does decide to lose their shit this May, they will have the capacity to unleash an absolutely catastrophic meltdown!”

You’re in a similar place, mentally. You’ve swallowed an active volcano, or it grew from inside at some point in the last few years, and it’s there, hot, always, ready to erupt and destroy everything that you have to cope with all the time in a single, swift moment of absolute annihilation. As a Capricorn, however, you have unfortunately contained this feeling so effectively that, even if you were to unhinge your jaw to unleash it, the intensity would immediately overwhelm your fragile physical form. Instead of screaming, you would cough out a little cloud of dust and immediately perish.

Your buddy Pluto, spending the last of its leisurely fourteen years with you, goes retrograde on April 29. You’ll make it through the next four weeks as you always do, nonetheless, probably working too much. The internal volcano will continue to grow in size and potential energy.

Aquarius

A rattling, chaotic environment isn’t necessarily troubling to the average Aquarius: even y’all’s sign symbol looks like turbulence. You tend to live deeper inside of your own head than any other sign, and it takes some serious external disruption to disturb the inner recesses of that sanctum. You’re not likely to be shaken by other people’s high-octane stress during the bumpy sections of this Taurus season.

More likely, the change-inspiring vibes associated with the coming months’ eclipses will drive you even further into yourself; you’ve got to really spelunk all the way in there to deal with some of your own mysteries. That’s excellent, best fortune to you in your quest! But remember to break for air every once in a while: the people who love you still like to see you, occasionally, even when you would be content to pursue a solitary spiritual quest into your own interiority for a solid month straight.

Pisces

Good news, Pisces, your year of relatively decent luck is slated to continue through Taurus season! Big Daddy Jupiter is still in your constellation until May 10, shielding you from some of the more dramatic emotions you’d probably otherwise feel during the new moon and partial solar eclipse. You’ll still experience it to a lesser extent, though, like sipping on an artisanal cocktail instead of chugging a jar of moonshine.

Jupiter leaves you (temporarily) for Aries on May 10, coinciding with Mercury’s retrograde. This sounds dire, but don’t get grumpy about sharing the shine with your sign neighbor: you’re in Jupe’s good graces all year, and the afterglow of its recent visit will hopefully still soften any Mercury retrograde-related misfortunes. Go easy in mid-May, though: all of the water signs will be hit hard by the full moon and total lunar eclipse in Scorpio. Plan ahead so you recognize what’s happening when it hits you, and avoid starting melodramatic fights while Mars is still in your sign.

Your life isn’t falling apart! You’re just feeling a lot of emotions all at the same time, like you have so many times before, and — I deeply regret to inform you — will so many times again.

Aries

Let the star of love and pleasure guide you in matters of the heart.

May will find Aries hosting some VIP visitors: Venus enters your sign on May 2, followed by Jupiter on the 10th. The season’s earth and water sign eclipses should be relatively easy for you, more stimulating than devastating. Your biggest potential source of drama around the full moon on May 16 will likely be related to a romantic connection who’s affected more direly by the total lunar eclipse in Scorpio than you are. Be patient — I know, it’s hard for you, just do your best! — with the water and air signs in your life this spring.

The latter portion of May will also test your self control with Mercury retrograde, but try to keep your temper in check. A fight with a Leo right now could be particularly combustible, and nobody wants to deal with the unlikely spread of a massive land fire during the growing season. Enjoy the auspicious boost your planetary guests will provide and avoid situations that piss you off.
