After posting on TikTok about being allergic to coffee and a long list of foods that they classified as “literally everything,” Halsey posted on Instagram Stories about a series of conditions they were recently diagnosed with.
Halsey, who was wearing a heart monitor in her videos, opened up about her health on Instagram, giving fans an update so they don't worry about her.
“My health has changed a lot since I got pregnant and gave birth. I started getting really really really sick — I've been kind of sick most of my adult life, but it started getting really bad [after pregnancy],” she said. After being hospitalized for anaphylaxis — or a severe allergic reaction — and many doctors appointments, Halsey said she was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome, and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a group of disorders that impact connective tissues like the skin and joints; Sjogren's is an immune disorder that includes hallmark symptoms like dry eyes and a dry mouth; mast cell activation syndrome is marked by repeated instances of anaphylaxis, and POTS is a blood circulation disorder.
“I'm still looking for answers for the root cause of some of those things,” Halsey said. “It could be another autoimmune disease, and I've known I've had autoimmune issues most of my life, especially having endometriosis.”
Halsey has long been open about their health, including talking in the past about their endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to that typically found in the uterus grows outside of the uterus.
The most recent update on her health comes after she told fans in April that she'd been in and out of the hospital.
"Trying my best to keep things normal; Grammys, Coachella etc.," they wrote on Instagram, according to E News. "But my body is putting up a strong protest. And ultimately demanding that I slow down or stop foreal this time. Especially so I can be in the best shape for tour." [SIC]
Halsey said they are still planning to go on tour, just in a way that's healthy for them.
“Im on a treatment plan right now, I'm in rehearsals for the tour. I'm so excited to be going on tour because it keeps my mind off everything and keeps my body healthy because I'm so active,” they said. “I can't tour the way I used to when I was younger, when I didn't give a shit about my body…. I've learned a lot about doing my job under the conditions I'm experiencing.”
