The New Year is an American indie rock band, formed in 1999, a year after the demise of the band Bedhead by former Bedhead members Bubba and Matt Kadane. They released their first album in 2000, Newness Ends, which like their following albums was recorded with Steve Albini. The End Is Near (2004) and The New Year (2008) followed, with both being received positively by music critics at Pitchfork Media and Allmusic. The band is currently working on a new LP.
The band was formed in 1999, a year after the demise of the band Bedhead by former Bedhead members Bubba and Matt Kadane. The New Year was originally intended to be a two-person project made up of only the Kadane brothers. Four musicians, all longtime friends of the Kadanes, were slowly recruited for live performances and the lineup solidified.
Like Bedhead in its later years, The New Year started with no real base of operations. Early on Matt and Bubba Kadane were located respectively in Boston and Dallas. The band soon added bassist Mike Donofrio (of the band Saturnine, located in New York), drummer Chris Brokaw (in Boston, formerly of the bands Codeine and Come), and guitarist Peter Schmidt (located in Dallas, formerly of the bands Three on a Hill, Funland, Legendary Crystal Chandelier, and part-time member of Bedhead).
The New Year is a 2010 American drama film directed by Brett Haley. Premiering at the 2010 Sarasota Film Festival, it won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature in the festival. The film, about a young woman who has dropped out of college to care for her ill father, is Haley's directorial debut and stars Trieste Kelly Dunn as Sunny.
The film had a positive response from critics. Based on 5 reviews, review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 100% fresh rating. Critics praised the performance of Dunn within the film, with The New York Times's Andy Webster noting that Dunn was "smart and attractive [and] steadily, wordlessly conveys her character’s internal struggle." Steve Dollar, writing for The Wall Street Journal, states that "Trieste Kelly Dunn carries Brooklyn-based director Brett Haley's debut with a face made for the subtle calibrations of emotional conflict."
The New Year is the third studio album by indie rock band The New Year. It was released in 2008.

Turn On the Bright Lights is the debut studio album by the American rock band Interpol, released in August 2002. The album was recorded in November 2001 at Tarquin Studios in Connecticut, and was co-produced, mixed and engineered by Peter Katis and Gareth Jones. It was released on August 19, 2002 in the United Kingdom and August 20 in the United States, through independent record label Matador Records. Upon release, the record peaked at number 101 on the UK Albums Chart. It reached number 158 on the Billboard 200 in the United States, as well as spending 73 weeks in the Billboard Independent Albums, peaking at number five.
"PDA", "NYC", "Obstacle 1" and "Say Hello to the Angels" were the singles from Turn On the Bright Lights, and a video was shot for each with the exception of "Say Hello to the Angels".
The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 29, 2011 for shipments of 500,000 copies.
A remastered version of the album was released in 2012 to commemorate its tenth anniversary. It featured additional material including demo recordings of several tracks, the bonus songs previously available on international releases and a DVD of live performances and music videos.
The New 52 is a 2011 revamp and relaunch by DC Comics of its entire line of ongoing monthly superhero comic books. Following the conclusion of the "Flashpoint" crossover storyline, DC cancelled all of its existing titles and debuted 52 new series in September 2011 with new first issues. Among the series being renumbered are Action Comics and Detective Comics, which had retained their original numbering since the 1930s.
The relaunch included changes to the publishing format; for example, print and digital comics are now released on the same day. New titles were released to bring the number of ongoing monthly series to fifty-two. Various changes were also made to DC's fictional universe to entice new readers, including to DC's internal continuity to make characters more modern and accessible. As well, characters from the former Wildstorm and Vertigo imprint were absorbed into the DC Universe.
The New 52 branding ended after the completion of the "Convergence" storyline in May 2015, although the continuity of the New 52 continued. In June 2015, 24 new titles were launched, alongside 25 returning titles, with several of those receiving new creative teams.
New Year is the time at which a new calendar year begins and the calendar's year count increments by one. Many cultures celebrate the event in some manner. The New Year of the Gregorian calendar, today mostly in use, falls on 1 January (New Year's Day), as was the case both in the old Roman calendar (at least after about 713 BCE) and in the Julian calendar that succeeded it. The order of months was January to December in the Old Roman calendar during the reign of King Numa Pompilius in about 700 BCE, according to Plutarch and Macrobius, and has been in continuous use since that time. Many countries, such as the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, the UK, and the United States, mark 1 January as a national holiday.
During the Middle Ages in western Europe, while the Julian calendar was still in use, authorities moved New Year's Day variously, depending upon locale, to one of several other days, among them: 1 March, 25 March, Easter, 1 September, and 25 December. These New Year's Day changes generally reverted to using January 1 before or during the various local adoptions of the Gregorian calendar, beginning in 1582. The change from March 25 – Lady Day, one of the four quarter days – to January 1 took place in Scotland in 1600, before the ascension of James VI of Scotland to the throne of England in 1603 and well before the formation of the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707. In England and Wales (and in all British dominions, including Britain's American colonies), 1751 began on March 25 and lasted 282 days, and 1752 began on January 1. For more information about the changeover from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar and the effect on the dating of historical events etc., see Old Style and New Style dates.

I'm sick of cleaning up the mess you left behind
What a way to start the new year
On my hands and knees cleaning up the dirt and grime
What a way to start the new year
I'm sick of holding both ends of the tightrope
Cause when you fall all that's left is old high hopes for me
Stretched thin to the end trying to keep it all in
What a way to start the new year
Won't you say that it's alright?
Won't you tell me it's okay?
Because there's 364 more days
I might be smiling but you'll never even hear me say
That I like it in the shadows
Counting down to zero just to start again
Oh what a way to start the new year
Don't get me wrong, I hate this holiday
What a way to start the new year
On my hands and knees, choosing what I have to say
What a way to start the new year
I never realized it could mean so much
Just to go to bed later when we have to get up all the same,
And we scream and clap for the end of what was and what we've become
Won't you say that it's alright?
Won't you tell me it's okay?
Because we have 364 more days
I might be smiling but you'll never even hear me say
That I like it in the shadows
Counting down to zero just to start again
Oh what a way to start the new year
Was it really that bad?
And could it be better?
Well, I don't know, but with you I still have hope
That this could be my year
364 more days, 1 million chances left to find you and to see your face
Making light out of the shadows, finally get to zero
Maybe we'll both say
364 more days, 1 million chances left to find you and to see your face
Making light out of the shadows, finally get to zero
Maybe we'll both say
