Edit: Thanks everyone so much for asking such great questions! I had a blast. Check out mainlymozart.org if you want to learn more about the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra and follow @mainlymozart on Instagram and Facebook.

Hey Reddit! This is Jun Iwasaki, I've been concertmaster of the Nashville Symphony since 2011 and was concertmaster of the Oregon Symphony prior to that. I graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music’s Concertmaster Academy and teach music at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. I also love to cook!

Between June 10-18, I'll be performing with the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra in San Diego, CA, home to the largest gathering of principal players and concertmasters in North America. You can view the 2022 All-Star Orchestra roster by following this link: https://www.mainlymozart.org/allstar-622/

EDIT: We are pretty much done for the day. Thanks everyone! We may have some of our experts drop by to check for unanswered questions as their job allows.

On this day, 42 years ago, Mt. St. Helens erupted. We’re volcano scientists and experts from the Cascades Volcano Observatory and Washington Emergency Management Division. We’ll be here taking turns answering your questions about Mt. St. Helens, Mount Rainier, the volcanoes of Yellowstone, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon and California. Joining us at times will be:

  • Emily Johnson, volcanic rocks, education, field geology

  • Emily Montgomery-Brown, volcano deformation, monitoring

  • Liz Westby, volcano communications, Mount St. Helens

  • Mike Poland, Yellowstone, volcano deformation

  • Seth Moran, volcano seismicity, volcano early warning, monitoring

  • Wendy Stovall, volcano communications, Yellowstone

  • Wes Thelen, volcano seismicity, lahars, monitoring

  • Brian Terbush, emergency preparedness with WA EMD

Edit: (Larry Mastin, ash modelling, ash and aviation had originally planned to join us, but was unable to do it).

We’re all using one account and will be signing our first names. If your question hasn’t been answered yet, we’re waiting for the appropriate expert to arrive to answer it.

The Cascades Volcano Observatory is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, created in the wake of the Mt. St. Helens' eruption and aftermath.

Here’s proof of our AMA from our verified Twitter account. More proof from USGS.

EDIT: Thank you for all the questions. That's all I have time to answer today. You can read all of my work here https://www.usatoday.com/staff/2647742001/gina-barton/

During my first week as reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 2002, the biggest story by far was the disappearance of Alexis Patterson, 7 years old and Black, who vanished on her way to school. A month later, Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped from her bedroom in Utah, sparking a conversation in our newsroom about why Elizabeth’s case got so much more national media attention than Alexis’ and whether race played a role. Through the years, I’ve stayed in touch with Alexis’ mother, who believes her daughter is alive and will someday be found. I want to help make that happen if I can, and I want to do my part to help other missing children whose stories have yet to be told. The story I wrote to kick off the project can be found here.

I have more than 15 years of experience as an investigative reporter . In 2012, my reporting on the death of Derek Williams in Milwaukee police custody prompted the medical examiner to change the cause of death from natural to homicide. For that investigation, I was honored with a George Polk award. I am also the producer and host of the national Edward R. Murrow Award-winning podcast Unsolved, which will feature Alexis Patterson’s case in season 4.

When you have allergies who do you call? I know all too well how painstaking it can be to deal with allergies. Allergies are a major cause of illness in the US affecting up to 30-40% of the population, adults and children suffering with symptoms of seasonal or perennial hay fever, asthma, eczema, and other allergic diseases. Going to a doctor's office twice a week for allergy shots is both expensive and inconvenient for millions of suffering Americans. That led me to look into alternative modes of immunotherapy treatments. This Allergy Awareness Month, I want to share with you all what my team and I created with Nocturnal Vestibular Immunotherapy. A result of 15 years of experience, clinical observations, this treatment takes advantage of the dendritic cell rich vestibular space of your mouth and of the changes induced by sleep in the circadian cycle of the immune system inducing a faster and more efficient tolerance and symptom relief.

This is a little different than your average AMA because we will answer some questions LIVE via video - which allows me to answer more questions and give richer answers. We can post the transcript of our answers later too. :)

That being said, we will most definitely be answering via text here!

On top of that, our goal with this AMA is to make your life better in some way, so as part of that, we're going to do some things throughout the day to teach you something (or at least entertain you) in addition to simply answering your questions - more info below.

- - teaser, we're starting out by cooking homemade Chick-Fil-A nuggets live from scratch - -

PROOF

One of my favorite prompts to help inspire questions from you is "what is one thing that you're struggling with or striving for right now?" So think about that, ask your question, and I'll do my best to help you immediately or at least point you in the right direction! :)

One of our sayings is "we weed through all of the crap, tell you what you need to know, and point you to solid sources for more info."

But seriously, ask anything. Life, business, failing, struggles, hopes, dreams, food, technology, religion, whatever.

My co-host during multiple parts of the AMA will be my wife, Danielle Garcia - aspiring novelist & all around great person! :)

LIVE VIDEO? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
