    In short, Indian judiciary has been completely consistent on the point that no legal impediment should be placed in front of the State’s ability to bully people however it wants. Obviously governments take their signal, know there’s impunity, and do what they will.

    There is no longer even a pretense that rule of law exists. Suspect someone pelted stones? Destroy their home. Who needs to go to court to prove charges? Suspicion of crime will result in completely illegal punishment meted out by alleged "law-enforcers".

    Recent amendment to Juvenile Justice Act classifies serious offences against children non-cognizable. It means Police cannot even investigate complaint without permission of the judicial magistrate onus of which is on the aggrieved. This is devastating

    I suppose there is a fair bit of politics behind that Pakistan SC decision (it’s inevitable in such cases, whichever court), but at the end of the day, the case was brought, heard and decided on time, and the decision put a stop to executive impunity. Make of that what you will.
