How is Sgr A* different from M87*, the black hole we first saw in 2019? They differ in size – and this impacted how each black hole was imaged. Learn how the captures images of these objects that are constantly on the move.

Excited about today's announcement on ? You can now listen to the data! This is a sonification — translation into sound — of the image of the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), w/

🔵 Scientists had previously seen stars orbiting around something invisible, compact & very massive at the centre of the . This suggested that this object is a black hole & today’s image provides the first direct visual evidence of it. Say hello to 👋

Focus on the soldiers' helmets and imagine they are particles. The motion looks like a wave. So how or what does this explain about the relationship of the wave, to each particle? [video source: ] [explanation: ]

Now that I'm writing multiple news stories a week I'm interviewing (primarily) physicists constantly and again realizing how few get any media training. Here's an imperfect/incomplete list of things to keep in mind if you find yourself interviewed for a news/magazine story 🧵

The Event Horizon Telescope team has done it again. 🤯 This is a photo of Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy. It took several telescopes & 300 researchers from 80 institutes to make this possible. Read more:

A special day for me: >22 years ago I thought we could perhaps see the supermassive black hole in the Milky Way with an earth-sized radio telescope. We calculated its appearance, colored it orange/red, coined the term 'shadow', published it, & now we see!

For the 1st time, JCOs & ORs will get car garages/parking slots along with their accommodation -- so far available only to defence officers. I think this is among the highlights of the new norms for defence infrastructure approved by  today.👏
