I've loved this song ever since I first heard it. The baroque pop flipside of the coin that contains Batdance's plunderphonics

"Dance With The Devil" was recorded in early 1989 for possible inclusion on the Batman soundtrack, but Prince decided it was too dark & it remains unreleased. #Prince4ever youtu.be/udVFCpg5OnU

In principle, I don’t believe anyone should own or run Twitter. It wants to be a public good at a protocol level, not a company. Solving for the problem of it being a company however, Elon is the singular solution I trust. I trust his mission to extend the light of consciousness.

I simply won’t get mad about all this bc the absolute dumbest people on earth are going to keep offering “advice” like this and it’s just hysterical. These people are like of Kaspar Hauser had a trust fund. No exposure to any human beings ever.

One of his principal “promises” if this sale is permitted is to get rid of bots, which is hilarious bc p much anyone with more than 1k followers owes at least 20% of that count to bots. If they were truly purged every guy like this would meltdown over losing half their followers

Honestly one upshot of Elon buying this site is that he will be inundated with every “intellectual dark web” dweeb petitioning him endlessly to get to the bottom of why they don’t get more RTs

Hey guys I’m Twitter’s new accountant and I’m here to say that getting 100k likes on “im nomming on some apples” does not actually generate revenue so keep on posting!

Maybe the 1934 Imitation of Life more deftly captures the imbalance between the white and Black mothers and expresses more tacitly, but I kind of can't believe what the '59 version gets away with. So melodramatic and upfront it ends up masking a whole host of intersecting ideas

Coming this summer from @88_Films One of the greatest Martial Art films ever made. Righting Wrongs also known as Above The Law is some territories. Starring legend’s Yuen Biao and Cynthia Rothrock and directed by HK royalty Cory Yuen, this is a must buy for any Action film fan

Any discussion of free speech is incomplete without talking about how a tiny percentage of the population can just buy modes of communication if it suits them, and nobody else can.

Lmao even banks wouldn’t give him the capital to buy this place without putting up most of the money himself because it’s such a waste of cash

Dropping $43 billion to buy a website that generates no value so no one can ban you for tweeting “pronouns suck” seems really stupid but then I guess that’s why I’m not the biggest brain genius since Einstein.

It’s so funny that the second synths hit the commercial market rock purists were like “it’s cheating to use these” bitch what’s harder, learning three guitar chords or programming a jet cockpit?

Shoutout to Robert Moog for building a literal building wall of cable inputs, knobs and switches and having the nerve to say “this is an instrument you can own for your home or studio”

Reached this part in my Micronesia rewatch and while “it’s a fucking stick” is the moment everyone remembers, imo the true cherry on top is Jason reassuring “it has a face on it!”

given the number of animators who worked on this to produce it as cheaply as possible it's insane how good the new 4K disc looks. That plus the Atmos track really elevates a mediocre film

Heavy Metal (1981) and Heavy Metal 2000 are fascinatingly ill-timed. The former came out juuuuust before an explosion of metal that would have better fit its aesthetic, and the latter came out in the exact black hole between the ‘80s metal dying out and being reborn in the 00s

Based on the emails I keep getting asking if I’m in academia, I hope the Jake Cole who writes papers on electron particles is having a great day.

I speak to ex-gender critical people a lot (my DMs are open for that reason), and a lot of them were Leftists who cheered for Marriage Equality too, who found that as gender critical people they were expected to ally with people who they would have fought all their lives.

The second movie shamelessly cribbing the Akira Tokyo destruction scene and having it be almost as effective in giving off just pure sickening vibes thinking about the body count, good movie!

The Heisei Gamera films are so great. Really great suit/miniature/CGI work and integration, and also some of the rare kaiju movies to really lean fully into being unnerving, of people struggling on every level to comprehend what they are witnessing

I think I still like what Eggers is doing with all these (ie not trying to update his various folkloric eras) more than the actual movies but sometimes you gotta see a Skarsgard howl like a wolf and drink someone’s blood

The Northman: just a good old-fashioned movie about living and dying for nothing and adhering to whatever religion best speaks to the dumb, violent lives of man. Lotta fun.
