a spiral into madness from the upcoming album "12 Stories to Plummet From"
her mother gave her the name of mayo methot
goddess in silver halide
face of the great depression
legend - got her early movie roles at warner studios
minor parts at first but made impressions they remembered
5'2 a sparkplug drinkin with the rummies
startin brawls in nightclubs she got the nickname sluggy
world within an arms reach she'd get it in a heartbeat
rising star mayo gettin bigger on the marquis
married humphrey bogart in 1938
fireworks at first its like her nights were turned to day
but now the honeymoon was short lived the fire burned away
and when that fire burned to smoke and ash that sky had turned to
grapplin with jealousy got violent when the talks failed
stabbed bogey in the shoulder at a party over cocktails
a madness to miss methot more than ruffhoused with her man
she black out while he was wrestling the gun out of her hand
constant fighting they would never clear the rumours
when he left her for an actress who was twenty years her junior
sluggy cracked a crystal ball in the attempt to see her future
then she hit the bottle makin sure she'd get to see it it sooner
aging actress in a slump of unemployment
stumblin down sunset boulevard amongst the muddled voices
she knows that daggers danglin overhead but just avoids it
now the only answer that she gots the one for whats your poison?
gettin friendly with the source of your fall
one bottle four horrible walls
bogey ignoron your calls
claw hammer to a porcelain doll
throwin darts at a photograph of lauren bacall
talent was infallable but now it seemed she bound to fall
clouded while she drownin in the valium and the alchohol
crouchin in her shower stall spoutin bloody murder
while she slumped against the outer walls now she tumbled further
down the spiral she was caught in
smeared her lipstick in a scarlet mess
seein what she needed fleeting farther than her arms could stretch
architecture of her frame depleted while she starvin
pinned beneath those inner demons martyred starfish in a party dress
hardly kept her wits about - went from bad to vulgar
weepy starlet on a reddened carpet bleedin from the the ulcers
that had burrowed in burnin in the brimstone and the sulphur
windows painted black she dancin in the shadow of the vulture
was it all for nothin? sluggy loved her bogey one and only
but that sun was slowly setting in the dust the dusk was lonely
its enough to crush a woman underneath the weight attached to it
found her in a portland motel claimed as an accident
where do you go now that gravitys gone?
and is your love about to answer that call?
where you goin now that gravitys gone?
feel the weight of all this matter disolve
where do you go now that gravitys gone
i gotta feelin it dont matter all
i'll drink to life while I sit and drink to death in this city
til the gravitys gone until the gravitys gone

Hollywood star Humphrey Bogart expressed his disappointment on multiple occasions about being too old to serve in WWII, but the veteran actor did his part working for the USO and making this film, "Report from the Front". The plot of this 3 minute short is simple: As Humphrey Bogart (clad in his distinctive overcoat and trademark fedora) and his wife Mayo Methot arrive home after a Red Cross tour, they are met by reporters who ask Bogie about the work of the Red Cross overseas. The film then shows footage of U.S. servicemen fighting, relaxing, and being cared for by the Red Cross including by the nurse corps.
According to A. M. Sperber’s book "Bogart", Bogie arrived on the Warner Brothers set with his four page monologue memorized and insisted on Methot being included in the short. He made a few rewrites to the script to make the final plea for donations a little stronger.
The plane in the background is, by the way, only a set. Still with the outfit Bogie is wearing and the plane tail looking somewhat similar to the end scene of Casablanca, it's hard not to see this short as a great postscript for that film, the most wonderful drama to emerge from WWII.
Incidentally, Bogart was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in 1918, spending most of his career on a converted passenger ship the USS Leviathan that ferried troops to and from Europe. He was at one time AWOL from ship but managed to get an honorable discharge nonetheless.
