To the Ole Miss AD. IF Kiffin goes to Auburn, please bring back Coach O! The SEC is a more fun and exciting place with Ed Orgeron. 😆

Not a shock at all. Many of us in GenX (especially the punks and postpunks) believed the country was heading toward becoming a plutocratic corporatist dystopian cyberpunk-like nightmare ruled by obscenely mega-rich robber barons and colonizers. We just kinda hoped we were wrong.

Leave Twitter because the infrastructure is rotting, they're running off all the good people, letting terrible people run wild, and it's run by a weird rich white guy who got his wealth from questionable sources? Buddy I live in Mississippi.

Great! Just effin’ great. It’s 7:00 AM CST on the day after the midterms and CBS This Morning is already touting Trump vs DeSantis for the GOP nomination in ‘24. 🤦‍♂️🤢😡

Because in so many places, the point is to have as few people voting as possible, even if it means sacrificing some of your own voters. Look at the Mississippi Constitution of 1890.

Why don’t we have elections on a Saturday so more working people can get to the polls? Too obvious?

I don’t know what will happen next week. I feel like at best, we get a little bit of breathing room before ‘24. At worst, we get two years of GOP/MAGA circus, fueled by all of corporate media to boost revenue and ratings.

Yes, Obama was elected twice. He was never as radical as the right made him out to be. He fought with one hand tied behind his back for much of his two terms. And of course, the right wing backlash of the TEA Party that leads right to MAGA.

And of course, the militarization of our police agencies, plus civil asset forfeiture. Every LE agency needs millions of dollars of tactical gear, assault weapons and armored vehicles. I don’t remember the LEO as warrior mentality being as prevalent years ago.

Remember the hatred towards Muslims and even people from south and southwest Asia who weren’t Muslims. Remember how quickly we passed the Patriot Act and how many people supported it. Who benefited? Defense corporations for 20 years of war.

I’m not so sure that we are not already an oligarchy. TBH, it feels like it started after 9/11. We’ve been moving to a right leaning, oligarchy with authoritarian tendencies since then. We like to be nostalgic about how together and patriotic we felt. However. . .!

I’m not thrilled about the new owner of this platform. I’m not thrilled about CNN giving more light and air to MAGA for ratings. It feels like just a game. The right justifies itself on Fox. The left justifies itself on MSNBC. They all make billions.

I’m really tired y’all. I’m not optimistic about next week’s midterms. If the GOP takes control of either house, then the next two years is chaos, investigations and gridlock. If Democrats maintain control, the media starts the horse race for ‘24 next week.
