I’m seeing a lot of folks spin this as a victory for Ukraine, and I think they’re missing the point. Unless this blockade is broken quickly, more civilians are going to starve and die. The reality is that clearing the plant would have always been costly for Russia.

Putin is hailing Russia's "liberation" of Mariupol after his forces completely destroyed during a two-month siege. He told defense minister Sergei Shoigu to block off the Azovstal metallurgical plant, where the last Ukrainian troops are holed up, "so that a fly can't get in."

β€œThe Democrats are going to take care of the son of a bitch for us,” McConnell said, referring to impeachment. McCarthy said he would urge 45 to resign. On one hand, it’s nice to have my reporting confirmed. On the other, the cowardice is infuriating.

The team being led by Windom was stood up *months* ago and is just now being revealed. They’re looking directly at the top β€” the organizers and the effort to overturn the election. Can we please stop pretending like DOJ isn’t doing anything now? 3/3

Nope. 2022 will not make me root for Piers Morgan, I don’t care how much he triggers Velveeta Voldemort.

NEW: Ukraine has added more than 20 fighter jets available by fixing inoperable aircraft with parts supplied from Europe: senior U.S. defense official Russia still DOES NOT have air superiority on Day 56 of the war.

Russia tested their β€œSatan 2,” super-heavy ICBM today, and Putin made a bunch of bombastic comments aimed at the West. Best indication yet that Putin knows he’s getting his ass kicked in Ukraine, and he’s embarrassed about it.

Howitzer batteries are arriving in Ukraine, along with smaller artillery pieces, counter-battery radars, etc. Reports are that up to 7 planes will deliver supplies in the next 24 hours.

Translation: Russia *tried* to change the regime in Ukraine and got their ass kicked. Now they’re going for the consolation prize of Donbas, where they’ll also fail.

This bombardment has been unlike anything we’ve seen since the early days of the war. I hope to have a new piece explaining the current situation on the ground, tactical nukes, etc. posted sometime tonight β€” just depends on writing time.

A major Russian offensive has begun in the Donbas. Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of @NSDC_ua: "This morning, an active phase of the Russian offensive began almost along the entire frontline [in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv regions]. The occupiers tried to break through our defenses."

Stop it. You’ve been carrying water for Russia since this war started. Proxy wars that risk nuclear escalation are a bad idea, but thankfully there’s an easy solution: Russia can get the hell out of Ukraine. Say that, and you’d have more credibility.

Clint wants to know what Ukraine was wearing when the assault happened. He also wants to know why they haven’t given in to Russia’s demands to make the assault stop. Don’t be like Clint.

Zelensky just warned that Putin may use nuclear weapons in Ukraine. If that were true, it would be an argument for reaching a ceasefire. Why should NATO continue waging a proxy war that one party says could soon go nuclear?

It seems like the Texas GOP purposefully driving up inflation and causing supply chain issues should be a bigger story. We’re headed for a potentially massive produce shortage because of Greg Abbott.

Texas AG Ken Paxton says the quiet part loudly: β€œThe governor has figured out we can stop trade along the border, slow it down, and it will create pressure on Mexico and some of their governors to work out a deal to help us with border security.” Just blatantly unconstitutional.

I try to glean as much as possible from the highly edited state media videos coming from Russia, and there usually isn’t much. But for some reason they keep including drone footage of their strikes wildly missing. From a video of Forpost drone activity:

If you missed CIA Director Burns’ comments yesterday, you should definitely check them out. In addition to delivering a master class in geopolitics, he highlighted a concern of mine: as Russia’s campaign continues to falter and fail, the risk of Putin using tactical nukes rises.
