Ancient Suba Language also referred to as Old South Arabic
This time I'm reading Suba (Old South Arabian) inscriptions. The first and second ones are in Sabaic, the third one is in Qatabanic and the fourth one is in Hadramitic. My OSA pronunciation is based on Arabic, although it might have been somewhat different (with changes during the several centuries of OSA history). Also the vocalisation is based on Arabic and the personal names might have been vocalised differently... I took some of the vocalisations of PNs from a pretty old chrestomathy, so there might be newer suggestions.

SUMMARY
=======
The Ancient South Arabian script (Old South Arabian 𐩣𐩯𐩬𐩵 ms3nd; modern Arabic: الْمُسْنَد musnad) branched from the Proto-Sinaitic script in about the 9th century BC. It was used for writing the Old South Arabian languages of the Sabaic, Qatabanic, Hadramautic, Minaean, Hasaitic, and Ge'ez in Dʿmt. The earliest inscriptions in the script date to the 9th century BC in the Northern Red Sea Region, Eritrea. There are no letters for vowels, which are marked by matres lectionis.
Its mature form was reached around 500 BC, and its use continued until the 6th century AD, including Ancient North Arabian inscriptions in variants of the alphabet, when it was displaced by the Arabic alphabet. In Ethiopia and Eritrea it evolved later into the Ge'ez script, which, with added symbols throughout the centuries, has been used to write Amharic, Tigrinya and Tigre, as well as other languages (including various Semitic, Cushitic, and Nilo-Saharan languages).

But, at the same time, the nomads on the edge of their kingdom were writing their dialects of Arabic in scripts of their own. Why didn't the #Nabataeans do the same and save us all a great deal of trouble by using a script suited to the Arabic language, rather than the #Nabataean Aramaic script which did not have enough letters? This paper will examine the relationship between Arabic and writing through the centuries, in the hope of providing some answers.
