What CHILDREN'S book is worth a second read as an adult? by cactuspumpkin in books

The Never Ending Story. It is a great fantasy romp but with adult themes about loss and overcoming depression. It is a masterpiece.

French Retailer Shuts Ukraine Outlets but Stays in Russia, Angering Ukrainian Staff by savuporo in ukraine

Because a life without a union would be endless wars and conflict. Think about it. The right wing across Europe has been growing. Macron needs to win the election, otherwise Le Pen will get in and she will cause damage to France and Europe. I don't like it and hopefully after the election France will step up but there are difficulties all around.

Bristol is more like Seattle or Portland Oregon while Brighton is more like San Fran, but really they're both their own thing. Bristol is definitely more "alternative" in all things.

What guns are these guards using? Is that a silenced PKM? by D0RSCH in ukraine

She can't take ANY criticism whatsoever. She spends all day spamming glory to Ukraine and has a very unhinge manner of talking to people that she disagrees with. She is not worth your energy.

Palmomental Reflex? by Standard_Bag_1773 in BFS

[–]tiptoptonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reflex is often present in normal people and may be absent in disease states. Testing merely for the presence or absence of the reflex therefore lacks both specificity and sensitivity.

It's really not a helpful reflex. I have a mild palmomental reflex, which doesnt concern the neurologist at all.

Bulbar Onset question about mobility. by Ok-Response-7828 in ALS

[–]tiptoptonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hawkins had juvenile onset and very slow progression even for that type (which tends to be slower). I think being optimistic is helpful -regardless of life circumstances - but Hawkins as poster boy for the disease means disappointment for a lot of people when they see their symptoms progressing. It's just not a realistic outcome statistically speaking. It has also given a false perception to well wishers who often use Hawkins as an example.

Putin's supposed biggest fear: Russia's demographic decline is going to kick into overdrive with the upcoming skewing of the sex/gender ratio by iceman530 in ukraine

They have a high population, but most of these are nearly in the retirement age. This is why the kremlin raised the pensionable age recently, which was far more unpopular move than attacking their neighbour despite their historic cultural ties.

New Zealand sends Ukraine a gift subscription to satellite photos. And a Hercules. by senmcglinn in ukraine

[–]tiptoptonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She has actually been one of the more compentent PMs we have had in years. Her team could do with more experienced professions, but Jacinda has had a very good track record in difficult times. NZ has had one of the best responses to covid in the entire world. Just because you do not like that response does not mean it wasn't good and effective.

NATO WILL EXPAND PRESENCE AND DEPLOY PERMANENT FULL-SCALE MILITARY FORCE ON BORDER WITH RUSSIA by Madame_Arcati in ukraine

[–]tiptoptonic 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Finland most likely. I wouldnt be too sure on Sweden, despite the uptick in support. I can see the support growing but ultimately if Finland joins Nato there is less need for Sweden too as they would be much more protected, leaving only their coast exposed to a potential invasion route, which is a lot easier to defend against than a land border.

Question about Familial ALS by [deleted] in ALS

[–]tiptoptonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also some evidence of a potential link between the faulty gene that causes familial ALS/FTD and schizophrenia but there needs to be more research into this area.

Russia sends its ethnic minorities to fight this war as there will be less outrage due to their deaths. It's awful on so many levels.

President Zelensky: UK to take patronage over restoration of Kyiv and Kyiv Region by TheRealMykola in ukraine

Blind nationalism is stupid. It's why Russians are believing in what their government is telling them. But i guess you're more of the oi oi savaloy type.

MP Lesia Vasylenko: "First they dig trenches in the contaminated woods of Chernobyl. Then they hit a 4 ton nitric acid storage in Rubizhne and the smoke blows over their military units. At this rate there won’t be many Russians for Ukraine to fight" by TheRealMykola in ukraine

[–]tiptoptonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great. This war is really showing the world exactly how badly organised and supplied the Russians are. All their threats are empty and weak. Europe will NEVER be scared of Russia again. God speed Ukraine. We have your backs.
