All good things must come to an end, and though some can argue that Moons are not great for this sub, they have been a fun addition and an interesting incentive for some to step up their game and improve the quality of their posts. Nevertheless, Moons are not eternal and one day the final distribution will be made and we will no longer get any free moons, what happens then?
Will memes be allowed in this sub again?
Will people stop using the daily discussion post?
Will Moons become even more of a status symbol over time?
Will Moons moon and hit $1?
Obviously it is impossible to know what the future may hold, but it's fun to theorize. Anyone have any thoughts on this topic?
Hello everyone and welcome to Moon Week for round 25 of Moons! For more information about Moons, please see our wiki page here or the Community Points page by the admins here.
Moon Week began yesterday with the snapshot post by the admins. The ratio is at least 0.539 and you can check out the post and comments to see an estimate of how many moons you'll be getting next Wednesday at the end of Moon Week.
To give exposure to our governance polls for the month, this Moon Week post will remain pinned to the top of the subreddit until the distribution post next Wednesday. Please review the following important information first. Each month we have dozens of questions about these things even though they are answered right here:
- If you can't see polls or vote, or have any other issue, try again later or from a different platform (different browser, app, mobile, or desktop). These glitches usually resolve themselves within a few hours, but let us know if it hasn't after a day or two.
- You can't change your vote so make sure you read the full post and discussions, and ask any questions you have before you vote. There are people wishing they voted differently every month and you have several days to vote so there is no need to rush it.
- CCIP-006 implemented a 5% bonus for voting in at least 1 poll, plus an additional 1.25% for each additional governance poll was implemented by CCIP-014
- You will also get a special badge for a week after voting in a governance poll. These are visible in the reddit app and new.reddit on desktop. If you have voted and yours is not showing, you may need to enable it manually by clicking your badges and looking at the Achievements tab.
- Successful polls are implemented whenever the mods or admins have a chance to do it. Usually this is within days or weeks of the poll passing, but depends on workload, priorities, and complexity of implementation
You may recall that we did not have any polls last month due to governance gridlock. Admins have kindly fixed this for us by changing the Decision Threshold formula to be 10% (15% soon) of eligible voting Moons instead of 10% of the entire Moons supply. The DT is lower this month due to no recent polls, but will adjust dynamically going forward based on voting participation.
Here are your polls for this round of Moons. Each poll is given a designated CCIP number, as per CCIP-017. You can now view the full CCIP list here.
Thank you for reading and happy voting!
Background
This post details the collective effort of many r/CryptoCurrency users to place a Moon logo on r/place. Those unfamiliar with r/place can read about it here).
The general idea is that Reddit created a blank canvas where every user could place a colored pixel once every 5 minutes. Subreddits competed (and occasionally collaborated) to create pixel art to represent their own communities. According to Reddit, r/place lasted 83 hours, and in total 160M pixels were placed by 10.4M users. At the peak of activity there were 5.9M pixels placed per hour by 1.7M users.
The final image is quite impressive.
A few callouts before the summary begins:
- First and foremost, a huge thank you to u/TheTrueBlueTJ, who not only had the idea to collaborate on a Moons logo, but also lead the effort from start to finish over multiple days.
- Many users contributed to this project by participating in the live chat or placing pixels, but unfortunately I cannot name them all in this post.
- To reward users for their contributions, the moderators decided to give out some rewards in the form of Moons. You can find the details at the end of this post.
- Even though I did not lead the effort, I was asked by those who did to detail the events in a post. Writing isn't my forte, but I thought I'd dramatize the events so hopefully it's a bit more entertaining than just a list of things that happened.
Chapter 1: Failure to Launch
The first step in establishing our Moon was to lay claim to a section of the canvas. But as we soon discovered, this is easier said than done.
Before u/TheTrueBlueTJ stepped in, a small group of users set their target at coordinate (980, 500), directly below r/Monero's logo. We made some initial progress in the outline of the moon, but were overtaken by a motivated group of users from the gaming community r/OriAndTheBlindForest.
Even though their game was developed by "Moon Studios", these users did not take kindly to our Moon and our logo was replaced by their character "Ori". From what I can tell Ori is some sort of ghost squirrel.
Next, we tried to move above Monero, but quickly met resistance from a group called r/GreenLattice. Our defeat here was swift and convincing, which is no surprise as this community ended up with the 10th largest image on the entire canvas when it was all said and done.
The team regrouped and identified a location that seemed promising for another push. The community behind it had already created a yellow circle, and if we could add some craters and a brown outline, our work would be done.
Unbeknownst to us, the image was created by r/WestSubEver, a community that worships Kanye West even more than Kanye West worships himself (a feat previously thought impossible by leading experts).
Soon after we began placing pixels, West's disciples found where the attack was coming from. Their response was to flood our live Reddit talk with an endless stream of semi-intelligible teenagers who would blast the song "Nah Nah Nah" (they were creating the album cover art of this song) before being banned.
At this point it was painfully clear that we were out-gunned (by bots and a larger number of active users) and too disorganized to make a legitimate push anywhere on the canvas.
We needed someone to step up. Someone who could create a battle plan that would turn a bunch of pixel-placers into a well-oiled machine. And luckily for us, those someones arrived right on time.
Enter u/_sweepy and u/jxntb733
Chapter 2: A New Hope
u/jxntb733 had the idea to create a Google spreadsheet with a grid of the Moon to help coordinate our efforts. u/_sweepy took it a step further and was able to give us the exact coordinates and colors of every pixel we wanted to place. With help from others, the final image we decided on was 32x34, a total of 1,088 pixels.
After discussing amongst ourselves, we just needed an area to start drawing. One quickly presented itself. At coordinates (1563, 447) there was a large empty yellow square, directly above a pixelated image of "Pou", a virtual pet from an old mobile game.
The plan was to create a dotted-line border of white pixels to signal to other communities that the area would be contested and that we wanted to occupy the space.
The team worked quickly, and since Pou was being overtaken by other communities they had little time to focus on us. Led by a few users, the Moon logo emerged without much interference. We chose the text "xMOON" since when you google it the top result leads to r/CryptoCurrency Moons.
Chapter 3: The Megaman Accords
After establishing our Moon, we started to form alliances with the communities around us.
To the south was r/LandoftheLustrous (a Japanese action fantasy manga series). Our group had plans to usurp their pixels to place more text (perhaps "r/cc"). But after some back and forth at the border, a truce was brokered by u/TheTrueBlueTJ.
r/Bitcoin was to the east and r/CostaRica at the north. We never reached out to either group, but many of us were already helping r/Bitcoin and thought we'd have an implicit crypto agreement. Costa Rica never tried to encroach on our space, and they had a pretty cool image of a sloth so we were content with letting them be as well.
The biggest unknowns were our neighbors to the west, r/Megaman and r/Israel. The two subreddits were the focus of many griefers (users trying to interfere with their images) and had formed a truce amongst themselves.
As Megaman's laser pushed further into our orbit, u/ominous_anenome reached out to the moderators of the respective subs and was invited to a discord channel named "Megaman Accords".
Their group had already formalized a set of agreements in an impressively official document, namely that each would have a "no attack first policy".
Since our Moon logo was largely complete and both these communities had many more bots and users working with them, it was an easy choice to accept. Rogue factions occasionally tried to extend Megaman's laser, but Megaman's mods assured us (with screenshot proof) that they were actively telling their users not to.
At the end of r/place, the Megaman Accords involved a truce between 16 communities.
Section of Megaman Accords Document
At this point we were in maintenance mode and after making some changes with letters and coloring, we created the following image:
Completed Moon (or so we thought)
We thought the hard work was finally over.
Oh how naive we were.
Chapter 4: "The Void" feat. a Twitch Streamer with 200k minions
All people are different. Some like cryptocurrency, while others might enjoy video games, sports, cooking, or anime. And for some reason unclear to me, some apparently like feeding into the ego of a Twitch streamer by following their every command to place black pixels ("the void") over images the streamer didn't like.
Well, that's basically what happened. A certain Twitch streamer noticed our Moons logo and decided to direct his ~200,000 live viewers to destroy it along with some other images.
So while our leader u/TheTrueBlueTJ (who had just gone to sleep) was dreaming about our magnificent Moon logo still intact, the small contingent of active users could do nothing but watch as our 1,088 pixels were turned almost completely black in the matter of seconds.
As our image was targeted, our former ally r/LandoftheLustrous took about a third of the space we previously occupied to complete their images. Another group placed a logo of a colorful “N” in our space as well.. With only a dozen or so people active at the time, we could only sit and watch the massacre unfold.
And *poof* ... just like that our Moon was gone
Chapter 5: Return of the Moon
A day may come when the courage of r/CryptoCurrency users fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but u/NotRyanPoles made sure that it was not this day. Low on sleep but strong of will, he and a few other users slowly but surely recreated the outline of the top half of the moon.
After a couple hours, u/TheTrueBlueTJ awakened from his slumber and concentrated efforts to rebuild our Moon. In particular he led the charge to re-establish about half of the space we previously had by getting help from our allies from the Megaman Accords and defeating a group who had written a colorful "N" in our northeastern territory.
At this point we realized we couldn't return to our former glory 1,088 pixels since r/LandoftheLustrous was too established at our Southern borders to invade. However, a collaboration ensued when we noticed that the image r/LandoftheLustrous had also included a Moon. u/TheTrueBlueTJ negotiated in their discord and soon came to an agreement to share the space.
We were allowed to expand downwards, as long as their half-moon and red-headed character stayed intact. After multiple iterations, an agreement was reached and we were even allowed to write "xMOON" stretching downwards on the west end of the shared territory
As u/TheTrueBlueTJ and u/jasomniax worked to update our spreadsheet to reflect the new joint drawing with r/Landofthelustrous, u/1969gypsy took the reins and gave instructions to our pixel placers. By the time our finalized pixel image was on the spreadsheet, we had already made significant progress.
In not much time at all we collaborated to produce what ended being our final image
Chapter 5: The End
The last few hours were spent defending the Moon from small griefers placing discolored pixels, changing our letters, or messing with the craters. Our only real threat at this point was an attack from a streamer. We monitored a couple of streams, and lucky for us no attack came as the streamers were preoccupied with destroying larger pixel art.
The group speculated that r/place would end around 4pm PST, which is close to the end of the working day at Reddit HQ in San Francisco. And sure enough, right around that time r/place ended with users only being able to place white pixels.
All the pixel art on r/place slowly faded away, and the team could finally rest and watch as the moon faded to oblivion
Good night sweet Moon.
Epilogue: Moon Prize Announcement
10,000 Moons were allocated as prizes to the contributors of r/place. After taking note of the users who the lead the Reddit talk, we decided to award Moons in the following way:
- 1,000 Moons to u/TheTrueBlueTJ, u/_sweepy, and u/NotRyanPoles
- 500 Moons to u/Jxtnb733, u/jasomniax, u/fan_of_hakiksexydays, u/youtooleyesing, u/1969gypsy, u/Tryin2GetThru, u/gantelope_, u/imaducksfan, u/Deathtolucky, u/hkliv

This will take some coordination and time but if we get together, we could build a OSU sized Moon map on r place
From what I've observed so far on the canvas a lot of the dots are from bots so it may get a little difficult but it is entirely possible to do it
Imagine if we actually built a big Moon image we could get more people to know what that is. More people would know what moons are, and just like me, they'll get hooked on to learning about cryptocurrency in no time
I know most of this isn't gonna happen but we could try to get it done
r/cc will be making Moon logo on the canvas in r/place
That title is pretty clear but for those who didn't knew,we're making Moon on the canvas in r/place.A mod posted a comment in the daily discussion about making Moon on r/place but it seems like only a little amount of people have noticed it.That's why I'm here, spreading the word.
We're currently losing our place on the canvas and that's why we need your help.Everyone unite and let's build a moon on the canvas.
The Moon will be a yellow 28px circle and the approximate location is (980,502)
Here is the link to the comment
Lets be honest, its a win/lose situation. On the one side you could have invested in the payments network running the McDonalds Crypto transactions... On the other you would be able to spend your own Crypto at McDonalds and blimp up eating it daily.
The network is Flexa, and the token that powers it is AMP. This is complete and utter speculation that McDonalds payments will go live very soon; But one thing is certain, Flexa is filming its first commercial. X-Files David Duchovny was seen on set, as well as 2chainz and some other Crypto Influencers.
The TL;DR of Flexa is that it eliminates fraud to the merchants completely, if fraud occurs (which hasnt yet) it will be paid for equally by all of those staking AMP to the defrauded network. By eliminating fraud, and being a completely digital and carbon neutral network it can charge merchants as little as 0.5% as compared to 3.25+% legacy pay rails charge.
At the time of posting AMP sits at .02769 with an ATH of just over .12 so its probably a good time to buy even in the short term, but if you spend a few hours researching Flexa and more importantly the people involved, its a solid project. Plenty of patents pending, some granted, money transmitting licenses in nearly half the US States.
Theres a lot of coins you can spend at over 40,000 locations in the US as I type this.... Its a solid project <3
Edit: there been some hiccups cause of this site suddenly changing their terms from allowing hosting free private tournaments to having minimum 1.65 buy in so ive sent every person that entered 1.65 but these are waiting for approval
Hello everyone, i been thinking of this idea for a while now and let’s see if we can get it off and maybe it will become a regular thing people will want more of in the future. Im sure this will be a fun thing for us as a community and what better we can win some moons!!
The platform of choosing for this round is www.Americascardroom.eu and all you need is to make a free account and you dont need to deposit any money as we are playing a private tourney set up for us
Date &amp;amp; time: Sunday 3 April 19.30 UTC Texas hodlem no limit
Buyins is 50 moons and is sent to me along your americascardroom username and when i got your buyin confirmation will be sent along with the password to the tournament the password will be sent on Saturday or early Sunday the best thing if u dont have a account on americascardroom is to make ur username similiar to ur username here will make it a lot eaiser for me.
Prizepool is atm 6000 moons added(1k from the Mod team and 5k from the subs most generous user u/moonsorbust) the buyins will be added to the prizepool and there is no fees so if we reach 100 players that will be 5000(buyins) + 6000 added!!
To spice it up me and u/moonsorbust will donate 100 each for every mod that joins and play and if you knock out one of them you will get 200 moons per mod as their bounty.
This is something that have been requested by many of u so lets do this and lets see who is the best poker player of this sub and if this becomes a success my man u/moonsorbust has said he will give 10k moons on next time we host it🥳🥳 And if you want to donate to the prizepool let me know in the comments or dm!

And again i wanna say thnx to the mod team for letting us do this and the donation and thank you u/moonsorbust for that nice big donation!!

I sold moons back in 2021 for a decent profit and used that to purchase other crypto. Now that tax season is approaching I want to add moons transactions to Koinly. How do I deal with this via Koinly.
Add the ETH address on my reddit app and classify distribution as an airdrop?
What is an airdrop taxed at in the US?
Would love to see more transparency around how to deal with smaller projects and DeFi tokens that don't integrate as easily with tax apps because they lack APIs
Anyone else have insights?
I love spreadsheets, graphs, data and crypto. So I've collected all the data posted in the Moon distribution .CSV files, made some sense of it all in a spreadsheet, then made us some graphs.
Total Karma
The Sum of all the karma per round
A 36% decrease since the last round.
I've added the average BTC price for the 28 day Moon round to this graph as the total karma has seemed to move up and down in line with its price.
I've done other analysis posts that show we get activity spikes when BTC fluctuates, with the most happening during dips as it seems that misery likes company.
The ratio of Moons to karma
The all important Moon to karma ratio. Multiply this number by your karma score to determine how many Moons you receive for each round. (Round 12 - 0.88 Never Forget)
This number will naturally decline over time as the Moons released per round reduce by 2.5%. The drop in karma has given us the highest ratio since round 12 last April and the ratio is 52% higher than the last round.
This was the second round we had Moons re-introduced that were used to purchase the subreddit membership. This round there were 23,114 additional Moons distributed, this increased the ratio by roughly 0.008
Number of users on .CSV
This shows the number of users who earned karma for each round. The lower orange line is users with an active vault at the time the .CSV was published.
The number of users with vaults at the time of publishing the data overall averages around 51%. This doesn't indicate that only 51% of the users claim their Moons though as you have 6 months from the distribution to open your vault and claim them.
Average Moons per user & Average Karma per user
I like an Average
The average Moons earnt per user takes into account a lot of factors: number of users, Moon to karma ratio, the reduction in Moons being released per round and the total karma.
Enough graphs, show me the spreadsheet
(The dates are a day ahead than most of you as I live in the future in UTC+13)
Previous rounds are here:
I've been posting these since Round 14 - You can find them here if you're bothered.
TL;DR Karma goes down again, ratio goes up again, 1 Moon = 1 Moon, I fucking love spreadsheets.
Could someone help me see how moons improve on Reddit preexisting karma system?
When I was first promoted to set up my reddit wallet I didn't really know why I was doing it. I kept my recovery seed safe and went on my way.
Then I learned more about moons. But I don't see any other subreddit a using a similar system. Why not?
And where does the value come from? Is it purely from the automated market maker on the dex where they are sold?
Getting moons is exciting, but at the same time I'm a little confused as to their purpose.
Basically I need some full blown background on what the heck is going on. Links to other posts or articles is fine if it's already been explained. Just trying to figure out what is going on.
We have more people filing into this sub everyday, and I still continue to see users with their vaults unopened.
In addition, when you do open it for the first time, make sure you record your 12 word seed phrase. That’s right, you need a seed phrase even for your Moons. This way if you lose access to your Reddit account, you can restore your Moons.
This also goes for all users that have already opened your vaults.
Please, please, please go to your vault and record your seed phrase right now. Moons are most of our favorite low cap coin. I hate seeing stories of people with over 1,000, and they break their phone and lose all access to the blockchain.
Just a friendly reminder with distribution minutes away.

Hello everyone and welcome to Moon Week for round 24 of Moons! For more information about Moons, please see our wiki page here or the Community Points page by the admins here.
Moon Week began yesterday with the snapshot post by the admins. The ratio is at least 0.442 and you can check out the post and comments to see how many moons you'll be getting next Wednesday at the end of Moon Week.
We have an unusual Moon Week this month, with no polls to vote on, but polls should be back next month. This is because governance has slowly approached a point of gridlock and nothing has passed in a few months outside of a fairly unanimous poll with 92% approval. Others, even with ~80% approval, have not reached the participation threshold despite significant promotion and participation. This is due to the Decision Threshold, which only looks at the entire Moons supply and does not account for the amount of Moons which have been sold, moved out of vaults, or belong to users who are banned (about 1.3 million). Estimates seem to indicate that about 60% of voting weight remains in vaults at this time.
Fortunately, we have been speaking with the admins about how Moons are going, including a live call with them and they have reacted very quickly to our priority items like this one. Nano kindly put together a guide on some recent updates to Moons and two changes to Moons I would like to highlight are:
- Deleted posts no longer earn moons (bad actors were using this as a loophole to farm with reposts and evade detection). This was already implemented in the latest snapshot
- The Decision Threshold will be calculated based on eligible voting Moons instead of circulating supply. This will effectively resolve the gridlock on governance and implementation is currently expected before next Moon Week
While we don't have polls this month, there are a lot of exciting proposals in development in r/Cryptocurrencymeta! Please head on over there to give your input on those ideas. You can see what's currently in the pipeline here. Ideas include dynamic karma caps, moon retention modifiers for users and mods, negative karma removal, and a slower on-ramp for new members to limit alt-account abuse! Please also check past proposals to see if there were any unsuccessful ones you liked that you'd like to sponsor running again.
Thank you for reading!
This is how it would work:
Participation is optional. Anyone that wanted to participate would put one of their moons into the lotto. There would be a minimum amount of 2,000 moons to get to quorum. At the end of the collection period, one participant would be chosen at random as the winner.
I feel like this would be a fun addition to this sub. There's no issue with liquidity because the moons have already been distributed and the lotto is based on the contribution.
This sub has over 4M users, it would be awesome to see someone win a million moons.
Edit for clarity: everyone would only put in ONE moon, but there would need to be 2,000 moons to begin the lotto. Which would be 2K people putting in only ONE moon.
Is Cryptocurrency Moons the new project that seemingly has a "coming soon" update that takes an eternity?
I'm starting to think that CC Moons is:
- The new ADA with smart contracts functionality that takes 5 years to finally get off the ground.
- ETH to ETH2 upgrade
- The "ETH Killer" that everyone continues (and will continue) to wait on...
When is mainnet finally coming? What is the roadmap for this project?
While I love what Moons has brought to this community in regards to awareness to the crypto space. There is little to no updates on the project itself and what the long-term purpose of it will be outside of buying a premium membership.
At the rate that the project (is it even a project?) a decentralized version of Reddit will be created and beat it to the punch. We need an update from Reddit.
Thoughts?
I was gonna delete my reddit account and decided to send my moons to my trust wallet ethereum wallet. Well the transaction did go through but I didn’t see the moon in my wallet.
I was honestly scared to message the mods because I felt so helpless and kinda dumb.
But I messaged them and they helped me even with additional questions without any agitation or snoodness. Very patient and helpful.
I was able to transfer my moons back to my reddit vault.
I’m thankful and grateful 🥲 truly.
Also know that if you transfer your moons to a wallet that doesn’t support them yet like trust wallet, you will have to go through a process to regain access to your moons. So think about it before. I found that it’s best to just #Hodl in your vault for now.
Okay love you guys take care.
One aspect about HODLing moons that I barely see anyone talking about is voting in governance polls.
For those that don’t know, after every moon snapshot we generally have a few governance polls on r/CryptoCurrency. These allow us to vote on the future of moons, the subreddit, and the rules surrounding them.
However, only your “earned” moons contribute to this. So for example, if you have 5,000 moons but you only earned 1,000 (through regular commenting/posting) and acquired the other 4,000 through other means, then you will only “contribute” 1,000 moons towards your poll choice.
So if you want to have a say in the future of moons, don’t get rid of them. If you get rid of them with the intention of getting the same amount back in the future, they won’t contribute to governance polls. Therefore, you should HODL your moons for the right to vote!
Below is a table of previous moon karma ratios for users that aren’t aware of how previous distributions went. The next moon snapshot is the 24th round and will be in around 4 days time.
