Williams, California

Williams (formerly, Central) is a city in Colusa County, California, United States. The population was 5,123 at the 2010 census, up from 3,670 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.4 square miles (14 km²), all of it land.

History

The postal service established a post office at Central in 1874. The town and post office were renamed in 1876, in honor of W.H. Williams, who platted the townsite. The city of Williams was incorporated in 1920.

The 2010 United States Census reported that Williams had a population of 5,123. The population density was 941.0 people per square mile (363.3/km²). The racial makeup of Williams was 2,785 (54.4%) White, 59 (1.2%) African American, 55 (1.1%) Native American, 94 (1.8%) Asian, 4 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 1,946 (38.0%) from other races, and 180 (3.5%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3,891 persons (76.0%).

The Census reported that 5,014 people (97.9% of the population) lived in households, 23 (0.4%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 86 (1.7%) were institutionalized.

Alistair (also Alasdair and variants) is a male given name. Alasdair is the Scottish Gaelic spelling of the name, in origin the Gaelic form of the name Alexander (Greek Αλέξανδρος Aléxandros). Also common is the anglicised spelling Alistair.

Hollyoaks is a long-running Channel 4 soap opera in the United Kingdom. This is a list of characters who first appeared on the programme during 2010, listed in order of their first appearance. In January 2010, it was announced that Paul Marquess would be taking over the role of series producer from Lucy Allan, who had been with the show for one year. Marquess fully took control on 17 January 2010, onwards. March saw the introduction of Jem Costello, a new love interest for Gilly Roach. The character of Eva Strong was introduced in April as the biological mother of Anita Roy, and Texas Longford joined Hollyoaks in May. Marquess' first major casting was former Footballers Wives actress Phina Oruche in the role of Gabby Sharpe along with her children Amber and Taylor and husband Phil, all of whom appeared in June. In July, the Costellos became the second family of the year to be introduced, consisting of Carl and Heidi Costello and their sons Seth and Riley. July also saw the arrivals of Heidi's cousin Mitzeee Minniver and student Kevin Smith. Three characters joined in August: Jasmine Costello, Heidi and Carl's daughter; Bart McQueen, a member of the long-established McQueen family; and Brendan Brady, Cheryl Brady's half-brother. In September, the O'Connors were introduced, with daughter Sinead, son Finn, stepmother Diane and father Rob, and new students Leanne Holiday, Jamil Fadel and Doug Carter. Alistair (Dragon Age)

Alistair is a fictional character from BioWare's Dragon Age franchise, first appearing as a companion and party member in Origins. Alistair is the first full companion the player gets if they don't choose the Human Noble origin (and the second if they do), and is a fellow Grey Warden alongside the player character. Over the course of the game, Alistair is revealed to be the heir to Ferelden's throne, and may be put on as king. It is also possible to sacrifice him at the end of the game against the archdemon.

In addition to Origins, Alistair also appears in the game's expansion pack Awakening (if placed as king during Origins), the Darkspawn Chronicles DLC,Dragon Age II, and the Silent Grove comic series. Alistair has received positive reception, mainly for his sarcastic remarks and romance. However, some writers have compared him to previous BioWare companions, such as Knights of the Old Republic's Carth Onasi.

Concept and characteristics

Alistair was mainly written by David Gaider—the lead writer of Origins—and is voiced by Steve Valentine. Alistair is a relatively new Grey Warden, who are a group devoted to fighting darkspawn. He is the secret son of King Maric and a serving girl, and was originally raised in Redcliffe Castle by Arl Eamon after his mother's death. However, he was later given to the Chantry for training as a templar, a military order who are trained to kill "apostates" (mages outside of the Circle of Magi) and watch over the Circle of Magi. Alistair is described as having a "wry sense of humor", and makes many sarcastic remarks during the game.
