My newest video is out, part 1 of A Modern Anarchism: Anarchist Analysis. This has been in production for months and I am so happy to finally release! I combine a variety of theoretical frameworks in order to synthesize a modern anarchism. Share it around!

If anarchism is to be revolutionary, it must be more than a radical aesthetic, more than an individual philosophy, more than edgy nihilism or machismo militancy or youth subculture. It must constitute itself as a restorative force, predicated around love of human potential.

A red state cannot liberate the people for the same reason that more trans drone pilots cannot destroy transphobia, more female CEOs cannot abolish patriarchy, and more Black senators cannot end white supremacy. Only the people can emancipate themselves.

Mel you spend your time here almost exclusively on justifying atrocities committed by states you don’t even live under

Anyone trying to reduce anarchism to merely a political stance in opposition to states rather than a deep ethical opposition to *all domination* is inevitably, invariably trying to provide space for something fucked up and will get caught collaborating with fash.

“Anarchism is a definite intellectual current in the life of our times, whose adherents advocate the abolition of economic monopolies and of all political and social coercive institutions within society.” - R. Rocker

Rocker had one of the most profound influences on me of any single thinker. Nationalism and Culture solidified the foundations of my anarchism and set me on my current path. I am eternally grateful to him for the beautiful, moving, insightful work that he produced.

“It is a tragedy, I feel, that people of a different sexual type are caught in a world which shows so little understanding for homosexuals and is so crassly indifferent to the various gradations and variations of gender and their great significance in life.” -Emma Goldman (1923) twitter.com/classylego/sta

If you tell me you're an anarchist I expect you to at minimum be anti racist, anti capitalist, anti authoritarian, not involved in a weird online accelerationist meme cult, and opposed to all forms of social hierarchy and domination.

Abuse is a social contagion which spreads through repetition. Hurt, we hurt others, hoping to experience resolution, but more often perpetuating harm. The many hierarchical structures in society then exploit this destructive cycle, solidifying themselves in our actions.

People are apparently still having a conversation about anarcho-nihilism on the TL, so I'll just point you to my video Hope, where I present the counter-argument to the anarcho-nihilist/pessimist/doomer conception. youtu.be/yBRTm1tMdAw

None of this is about being ~nice~, it's about relating to each other in ways which don't actively reproduce harm. You don't have to like somebody or even be nice to them to avoid trying to hurt them back when they hurt you

And it's hard to stand up for yourself without escalating or trying to harm or punish somebody back when you feel hurt, because nobody ever even teaches us how to do that, much less reinforces the lessons until we can do it even when we're upset and angry

A movement based in love is the only movement that will win. 👌❤️

I won't pretend to have the answers. I only know that the first step is in asking the questions. Because we will not build a liberatory movement by disposing of human beings or in essentializing them as their mistakes. A movement based in love is the only movement that will win.

There’s still a lot of confusion about the @DualPowerApp, not only because a lot of people aren’t doing their due diligence in research, but because most aren’t engaged in counter-institution-building work that’s directly democratic either.
So here’s another (brief) descriptor…

It's hard to accept conflict & deescalate it at the same time, the method of "deescalation" we have all been conditioned to fall back on is usually actually just avoidance, not deescalation.

Anti-carceral politics require handling ordinary conflicts in our own lives and communities and organizations in anti-carceral ways, but this is extremely hard to do in a society where we never learn how so instead the left mostly just avoids thinking about this

Where do people who are in the process of unlearning hierarchical mentalities go to ask questions?

So do not take this as a plea to soften our approach to bigotry or reactionary viewpoints or harm in organizational spaces, as there is very serious work to be done which cannot afford to be derailed by these attitudes. It is instead a question to the movement:

And there is good reason why our spaces end up this way. At root, it comes from a desire to protect the vulnerable. We know we have to take a hard line on certain behaviors or viewpoints, because otherwise our spaces will be dangerous to those who are marginalized.

The ensuing environment also makes it hard for people to grow. People become terrified to ask questions or breech difficult topics, because they think they risk being disposed of. Those who are brave/foolish enough to do so often end up in horrible arguments that split coalitions
