Your first competition - how did it go? by ssergorpgnitsop in bjj

[–]chink135 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my first competition a month ago. I’ve been training since July 2021. King of the beach rules (heavy emphasis on takedowns minus points for pulling guard). As a guard Player the rule set was not beneficial at all.

I lost both my matches. The first match I experienced the greatest adrenaline rush I’ve felt in my life. Got outwrestled by the guy but almost caught him an omoplata and then triangle. Lost on points. Second fight, said fuck it and pulled guard. I tapped to an Ezekiel from mount but honestly I think I could’ve fought harder when he passed my guard and got me into side control but whatever.

Some mma fighters are undefeated. I am just defeated 😎

I should probably have included this in the post itself but this is a strength training specific subreddit so I didn't think people would particularly care, I spar 6 days a week but out of those 6 days, 3 days are like an hour of drilling and instruction followed by 2-3 rounds of specific sparring at a relatively lower intensity. I only do multiple rounds of hard sparring 3 days a week

I really really like this programme too by the looks of it. Could you handle it along with rolling regularly?

Your last point is very interesting and insightful and I appreciate that. I never ever said that I was planning on using strength training to become sort of brutal monster who would muscle his way into submissions and hurt my training partners. I also think it’s a bit silly that you immediately jumped to that conclusion based on the fact that I said I want to get stronger. Here’s why I want to lift weights: lifting weights helps offset injury in bjj, I am definitely (right now) one of the smaller and weaker guys at my gym and strength being useful is a reality in grappling, I am also vain and want to look good.

Yes except everyone’s criticism of him was based on him hurting his back because Papi Jeff cavawhateverthefuck says so. They weren’t criticising him because his form is suboptimal for hypertrophy or because it wouldn’t be acceptable at a powerlifting meet

Going to A bjj tournament next month, any advice ? by Which_Cat_4752 in judo

Bruh take this from a white belt bjj competitor. 90% of us have literally 0 standup. If you have a few months of solid judo training you’ll be able to take down 90% of bjj white belts with ease. Don’t attempt throws that expose your back too much is the only advice I’d have

It made the police chuckle too. They just sort of laughed and went okay

I train bjj like 5-6 days a week. What do you suggest, judo twice a week bjj thrice?
