What major event is next? by bmmmmph in preppers

[–]PostsAnimalGifs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever it is, you probably won't predict it accurately at this time. After it has happened, people will rationalize and say we should have seen it coming.

Overall preparedness is king, it's the best bang-for-your-buck, niche preparedness for a certain event might be useful, but it might not be. Things that are useful in many different scenarios is a good idea. Having many different items that are just useful for one certain scenario should probably not be a priority (unless that scenario is likely in your area).

Believing an incredibly rare event is "going to be the next big one", just isn't likely. It might be something 'likely'/common like a financial crash, it might be something entirely different. It might be something that follows as a cascade effect from the embargo on Russia, from the current ongoing inflation, or something else.

What's new is the influx of renewables that means that the grid might be without supply at times. The demand might not be new, but the type of supply in the network is.

As did Lars Vilks, he depicted Muhammed as a " roundabout dog " (it was a thing in Sweden for a while, essentially a wooden dog that was positioned in a roundabout).

As a consequence he had to live under police protection for the rest of his life.

They could always encourage their fighter to go out there and seek a finish, not saying that would be easy. But yeah, I agree they should have done/said something earlier, not being yes-men.

I thought it was going to get better after the first round, that they were just feeling it out. But nope. Rose decided to not engage at all.

Crazy weird fight.

The film made $1.893 billion, it did fine. There's no guarantee that the film would have done as well in the west if it had removed things in China, a boycott from westerners could probably have done as much damage in lost revenue.

Oh no, so someone on the livechat is to blame for this? I really would prefer if he stopped if he just accepted that some names/words are bound to be mispronounced.

Hitting a foot sweep is the most satisfying move in all of BJJ by McDarce in bjj

[–]PostsAnimalGifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's more like it, do something, try to get a reaction, counter the reaction. Boom. But just outright going for a sweep on a defensive opponent, that's tough.

Landing something like Harai Goshi, or Harai-makikomi, and following to the ground and landing on someone is quite something. Sucks to be on the receiving end of though.

Kubi-nage / Koshi guruma is also pretty sweet, I hate to be thrown with it though.

While not a hip technique, Morote-Seoi-Nage / Seoi-Nage when getting sufficient height is also pretty cool.

When just circling I wouldn't say I normally get caught with sweeps though, I can usually read and defend those instinctively. If I'm just being defensive getting caught with foot sweeps is rare, but when attacking and trying to make something happen. That's when they catch you.

At least that's my experience.

It's kind of a function of how much you're attacking as well, if you attack a lot you're bound to get swept a ton as well (at least in Judo).

If one is just defensive, one might not get swept as much, but at that point you're not going to throw someone either.

embarrassing

I wouldn't say it's embarrassing. It just means that you caught me off balance, I laugh and get up again. It's just good fun. Some throws can be forced through strength, but foot sweeps tend to be about timing. I really respect when someone gets them on me.

how to practice judo alone, in between dojo training ? by Adventurous__Kiwi in judo

[–]PostsAnimalGifs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would disagree that it's a bad idea for someone to do strength training. It can take a long time to get good technique in strength exercises and the strength gains come slowly over time. If someone is limited in the number of judo sessions they can do, strength (and conditioning) is a great compliment to their normal training. A lot better return on investment than many other activities.

It can be a crutch, but at that point it's often people who start training who are already quite strong, not necessarily people who are just average and is starting to train Judo and strength training at the same time.

If someone started with something like deadlifts, squats and overhead press at the same time as they stared training Judo, I don't see it being a negative to their judo journey. Assuming it's at a volume where they can sustain and still prioritize judo.

Answering questions is a great way to improve, nothing quite challenges ones knowledge as trying to explain a technique to someone else.

It's definitely a great tool in learning.

New Clips Channel - Morning Kombat Ultra! by logfromrenandstimpy in MorningKombat

[–]PostsAnimalGifs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily the best idea though, if the subscribers weren't interested in the content then you are essentially killing your youtube channel.

High amount of subscribers, but if few of them are actually watching the content, then the algorithm will assume the content is junk and won't recommend it to people.

The fact that I hadn't even noticed the channel, or had it recommended, before is an indication of that.

It would have been a better move to just outright create a new channel and get a natural growth of subscribers that actually care about the content.

How do you handle friends / extended family who treat your survival stash as their own backup plan? by _CuriousStranger_ in preppers

[–]PostsAnimalGifs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sentiment is quite prevalent in society though, you're selfish if you want to keep what you've worked hard to earn. If you're saving money and has responsible spending, then you're still demonized as being greedy if you want to keep that yourself.

murder

the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another.

It is not murder. First off, it's not premeditated, second, it's not unlawful (where it's legal).

How about not stealing in the first place... Stop victim blaming, address the root cause instead, which is the thief, the trespasser.
