Muslim Nai are called Hajjam, after an Arabic word. Foreign Muslims (Ashrafs) looked down upon them so they adopted Salmani as surname after Salman Al Farsi, said to be first Persian to convert to Islam and was at times barber of Islam's founder. I am fascinated with this history
