Trying to be more equal is fine, it's just obviously forced when you take heroes that looked a certain way for clear audience demographic reasons and then replace them all for political reasons.

So patriarchy wasn't a thing in the nineties? The cultural institution feminists have been swearing is still dominant today? Which includes the idea that men protect women?

Yes, because the MCU was originally created for a male audience in a world where men were seen as the protectors of women. You can complain all day about why that was the case but it doesn't change that reality and so the cast made perfect sense.

These days things are pushing towards being more equal but it's clearly not inverted - the audience is not mostly female and women aren't the protectors of men today. Hence, forced.

Eh, I don't know when this conversation was but he had a pretty amazing run from 1995-2007 when he started leading movies after French Prince:

  • Bad Boys 1 & 2
  • Independence Day
  • Men in Black 1 & 2
  • Enemy of the State
  • Ali
  • I, Robot
  • The Pursuit of Happyness
  • I Am Legend

Hancock was his next movie in 2008 and while it kind of sucked it still made a boatload of money basically because Will Smith was in it. At his peak I'd say he was one of the strongest box office draws you could attach to any movie.

Meh that's just internet outrage machine at work. Who knows, maybe JD will be completely vindicated but what sparked this backlash against her initially is what I stated above. Until more facts come out the internet will do what it does and stoke the rage.

Right but the outrage is about her malicious dishonesty and the disparity in consequences for the two of them.

Most of the hard evidence so far points to it being a mutually abusive relationship with it leaning somewhat towards more abuse by Amber. The problem I think most people have is that Amber grifted onto the MeToo movement by writing an article painting herself as the innocent victim of an inherently abusive and violent JD, effectively torpedoing his career with what seems like outright lies while suffering no consequences for the way she treated him.

The first comment said nothing about femicide, it was talking about men committing murder in general. It'd make a lot more sense that way but that's not what was said.

The problem isn't your comments it's what /u/natalie-cinco said. If the response was simply "well this is a video of a man harassing women so that's what we're talking about" that's fine. But instead the comment was pointing out the attackers of men are usually men. Why would this be pointed out if not to be used to downplay violence against men?

[–]StuckInAtlanta -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

None of that has anything to do with the gender of the attacker being relevant to the fact that men are 80% more likely to be victims of violent crime. When I don't go down a dark alley in a bad neighborhood am I less afraid because it's probably a fellow male who would jump me with a gun? That has absolutely zero relevance to my personal concern for my safety.

I'm not here to debate whether men or women have it worse. I just don't get why saying men are usually attacked by other men makes it any less dangerous for the vast majority of us non-violent, law-abiding males.

Nah I think she was kind of silly to engage with an obvious unhinged troll to that extent, he's just not worth anyone's energy beyond getting him to fuck off. Can't blame her for reacting the way she did though.

So most men murder other men because they can't handle a woman's rejection? They hate women so they murder men? What?

Because women aren't expected to be funny or creative so we aren't really shocked or mad at them for stealing jokes. Amy stealing jokes is almost seen as a noble act in an effort to combat stereotypes.

I'm not saying women can't be funny or creative, but they aren't expected to be.
