    We’re committed to providing context and transparency around the content you see on Twitter. Today we’re adding labels on state media accounts in Belarus to better surface credible information surrounding the war in Ukraine.

    We’re adding labels to accounts and Tweets sharing links of state-affiliated media outlets in Belarus after detailed reporting about their role in the war in Ukraine. This builds on our years-long work to add context to state media outlets and limit their reach on Twitter. 🧵

    This is just one of the ways we are investing in safety. We’re actively working on an overhauled reporting process that makes it easier to report unhealthy and unwanted content, as well as tools like Safety Mode so we can be there when you need it most.

    Our random sample surveys of people in the US found: 1. The majority of people found Birdwatch notes helpful. 2. People were 20-40% less likely to agree with a potentially misleading Tweet's content after reading a Birdwatch note about it, compared to those who did not.

    Building a community-driven system like this is challenging. Before expanding the visibility of Birdwatch, we wanted to know if Birdwatch notes were helpful to folks with different points of view, & if they improved people's understanding of the Tweet content.

    For years we've provided more context about state-affiliated media while not accepting ad $ or amplifying accounts. With many looking for credible info due to the conflict in Ukraine, we're now adding labels on Tweets linking to state media & reducing the content's visibility.

    Today, we’re adding labels to Tweets that share links to Russian state-affiliated media websites and are taking steps to significantly reduce the circulation of this content on Twitter. We’ll roll out these labels to other state-affiliated media outlets in the coming weeks.
