Hi everyone. I am trying to design an automated rotating compost tumbler. I have a number of youtube designs that both are over the top and very non-descriptive in the types of motors they are using and why.
I am thinking about using a 'gear motor', a plastic 55 gallon bucket, black iron pipe to create an axle, and some type of mounting brackets to reinforce the plastic. I'm not concerned with how I rest it in on the ground (probably caster wheels on a frame).
First, is a gear motor the right choice? I want the motor to turn on a 1-2x times a day for a few rotations at a time (probably a 5 minute run time).
Second, I was looking at a 70 kg / cm gear motor on Amazon. Our existing composter tumbler weights probably about 70 kg / 154 pounds. I use a dolly to move it and dump it into garden beds.
Let's just say that there is enough going on in life that causes our compost tumbler to not be rotated for weeks at a time. I'd like to solve that.
Thanks!
