More “True Detective” is in the works at HBO — and even as the series shakes up its creative team, the property continues to attract Hollywood’s top talent.

According to a new report in Variety, “Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins has signed on to executive-produce Season 4 of the crime anthology, currently subtitled “True Detective: Night Country.” While there are no official plot details, and the series has not been formally picked up yet, the story will reportedly take place in the Arctic, where it can be dark for 24 hours a day.

“Night Country” will reportedly mark the first “True Detective” season without the involvement of Nic Pizzolatto, who created the show and wrote the overwhelming majority of the episodes during the first three seasons. Reports indicate that Pizzolatto and HBO mutually agreed to part ways in early 2020. The first season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson debuted in 2014, and afterward launched

HBO is developing a fourth season of the Emmy-winning crime anthology, our sister site Variety reports. Oscar winner Barry Jenkins (The Underground Railroad) will serve as an executive producer on Season 4, which is tentatively titled True Detective: Night Country. A fourth season of “True Detective” is officially in development at HBO, Variety has learned from sources.

The new season is currently titled “True Detective: Night Country.” The plot is largely being kept under wraps, but sources say that it would take place in the Arctic, where night can last more than 24 hours. It is also believed that the season would feature two female leads. No casting is confirmed at this time.

And yes, the show also fit in some alligators, Bieber, and fake cable networks along the way.

Tom Bergeron’s leaving it all on the dance floor. After it was revealed this week that Dancing With the Stars executive producer Andrew Llinares is leaving the show after five seasons, fans turned to the former host for his reaction — and Bergeron didn’t mince words. ABC has ordered a new pilot for the drama about the National Parks Investigative Services Branch, Variety has learned.
