Alt-Right Radio Host Claims Jews Brought Down the Twin Towers with a Nuclear Bomb

THIS IS WHAT THE ALT-RIGHT ACTUALLY BELIEVES

On the September 11, 2016 episode of his Thoughts of the Day podcast, alt-right radio host ‘Grandpa Lampshade’ put a bizarre twist on an old anti-Semitic trope, accusing Mossad agents of destroying the World Trade Center with, of all things, a nuclear weapon.

“For starters, 9/11, who did 9/11?” he asked. “I believe all the fairly credible evidence points to Jews did 9/11. More specifically agents from the Israeli government in conjunction with traitors in our own intelligence services and in our own government.”

Lampshade cited the “case of the dancing Mossad agents,” something that, like most conspiracies, actually has some basis in fact. On 9/11, a woman identified as Maria called police after she “spotted three men kneeling on the roof of a white van outside her New Jersey apartment building as she watched the towers burn through binoculars.” In total, five men were arrested: Sivian Kurzberg, Paul Kurzberg, Oded Ellner, Omer Marmari, and Yaron Shmuel.

Before their eventual release, the men were questioned by investigators and held for 71 days. All five were deported to Israel after investigators determined that they had no advance knowledge of the attacks, and it has never been confirmed that the men were Mossad agents. Nonetheless, he considered this “very damning evidence that the Israeli government and the Jews in general were a big part of this.”

The second bit of evidence he referenced was the fact that Larry Silverstein had put in a successful bid for the lease on the World Trade Center — specifically buildings 1, 2, 4, and 5, in January 2001. (Silverstein had previously won the bid to lease and develop WTC 7 in 1980.) He won his bid on July 24, 2001.

However, as Snopes points out, Silverstein was not the sole leaseholder of the premises, and, according to the Insurance Information Institute, “virtually all commercial insurance policies sold in the U.S. before 9/11 covered terrorist incidents as a matter of course.”

The World Trade Center was actually insured against terrorist attacks during the first bombing in 1993, long before Silverstein’s successful bid. Moreover, as the leaseholder Silverstein was obligated to insure the Trade Center, and wasn’t even responsible for the dollar amount — his lenders demanded $3.55 billion in coverage. So the idea that Silverstein had some kind of foreknowledge cannot be assumed based on these mundane occurrences.

Lampshade also speculated as to the cause of the destruction itself. His theory is that the Trade Center was brought down not by the airplanes themselves — the accepted version of events — but rather by the force of a “miniature tactical nuke in the basement.” He said he arrived at this conclusion after looking at “all the different theories of how it was done, how it might’ve been done, this or that.”

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), when reviewing the evidence, concluded that,

Video evidence also showed unambiguously that the collapse progressed from the top to the bottom, and there was no evidence (collected by NIST, or by the New York Police Department, the Port Authority Police Department or the Fire Department of New York) of any blast or explosions in the region below the impact and fire floors as the top building sections (including and above the 98th floor in WTC 1 and the 82nd floor in WTC 2) began their downward movement upon collapse initiation.

In summary, NIST found no corroborating evidence for alternative hypotheses suggesting that the WTC towers were brought down by controlled demolition using explosives planted prior to Sept. 11, 2001. NIST also did not find any evidence that missiles were fired at or hit the towers. Instead, photographs and videos from several angles clearly show that the collapse initiated at the fire and impact floors and that the collapse progressed from the initiating floors downward until the dust clouds obscured the view.

Lampshade also brought up the fact-cum-meme that jet fuel can’t melt steel beams, implying that a controlled demolition is required to explain the Twin Towers’ collapse. While it’s true that jet fuel burns at 800° to 1500°F, and could not, as such, melt steel beams — the melting point of which is 2750°F — this relies on a faulty understanding of why the buildings collapsed. It was unnecessary for the steel beams to melt for the building to collapse; all that was required was that the beams were sufficiently weakened.

As NIST further stated,

The collapse of the WTC towers was not caused either by a conventional building fire or even solely by the concurrent multi-floor fires that day. Instead, NIST concluded that the WTC towers collapsed because: (1) the impact of the planes severed and damaged support columns, dislodged fireproofing insulation coating the steel floor trusses and steel columns, and widely dispersed jet fuel over multiple floors; and (2) the subsequent unusually large, jet-fuel ignited multi-floor fires weakened the now susceptible structural steel. No building in the United States has ever been subjected to the massive structural damage and concurrent multi-floor fires that the towers experienced on Sept. 11, 2001.

Finally, Lampshade moves on to discuss the unrelated topic of mass transit, specifically why Americans do not take advantage of it. His explanation is, of course, as predictably ridiculous and racist as his 9/11 conspiracies. It turns out, you see, that Americans do not have the mass transit systems of countries like Japan because of black people.

Lampshade said that, during a conversation about mass transit with a friend, he was “sitting there thinking, ‘Yeah but there’s another prime reason,’ because, and let’s be blunt and honest, because in America we have niggers.”

Yes, it seems that in Japan “you can get on the bus, you can get on the train and, in all likelihood, you’re gonna be surrounded by other Japanese.” The Japanese “don’t have to deal with the ‘Thugga thugga, ooga booga!’ that’s gonna be piled on the bus” in the U.S.

“You see, once again you can just put mass transit into the file of the many things, the many nice things that we’re not able to enjoy in this country because of blacks.”
