How to regain control when your emotions hijack your thinking.

Have you ever found yourself repeating the same behaviors that you know are keeping you stuck... like indulging in a Netflix binge instead of working on that goal you've had for years. Or talking yourself out of something before you even start. Or letting your addictions get the best of you.

Or maybe you've had some success, but just can't seem to figure out how to break through to the next level.

You might be subconsciously self-sabotaging, and it's actually more common than you'd think.

Outsmart Your Mind to Make Learning Easier with Dan Willingham

Outsmart Your Mind to Make Learning Easier with Dan Willingham

    We will learn:

Why we remember some things and forget others.

How your listening type determines how to process information and how to reduce mind-wandering.

A new understanding of procrastination and how to overcome it.

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to learn and retain information so much faster and easier than others? Why some people can breeze through books and lectures while others can't stay focused for a full paragraph?
It's also our ability to focus. Which is something that I think our current ways of life are starting to destroy. Focus works kind of like a muscle. Use it or lose it.
So the less we're willing to practice and engage in learning, the harder it will be, and the harder it is, the less we want to do it.
But what if there's a way to outsmart your own brain and make learning easier and faster? That's what we're learning about today.
Our guest is Dan Willingham. He is Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia. His research is mostly about the application of cognitive psychology to K-16 education. He is the author of several books, including “Outsmart Your Brain: Why Learning is Hard and How You Can Make it Easy.”

Building Healthy Emotional Responses for a Suck-Proof Mind with Neeta Bhushan

Building Healthy Emotional Responses for a Suck-Proof Mind with Neeta Bhushan

    We will learn:

How unresolved issues from childhood create cyclical emotional reactions

How to use rituals and practices to release emotions

How to build a new default pattern for coping with difficult situations.

How do you handle life's sucky moments?
If you don't properly process your emotions, they get stuck, and they can cause all sorts of negative consequences, from depression to anxiety to physical illness.
So today, we're talking about a better way to approach these difficult moments by finding their magic.
Our guest is Neeta Bhushan. She is a co-founder of the Global Grit Institute, a mental health training platform for leaders and coaches, and the co-founder of the Dharma Coaching Institute, training thousands to live their best lives. She has helped thousands of people move past their heartbreaks, failures, and disappointments. And after years of research into human behavior, observing people in their worst and best moments, being a mother of two small children, and failing more than a few times herself, she knows what it takes to get back up no matter what bowled you over.

Drama Addiction: How Our Minds Get Hooked and How to Break Free with Dr. Scott Lyons

Drama Addiction: How Our Minds Get Hooked and How to Break Free with Dr. Scott Lyons

    We will learn:

How our survival strategies and coping responses become embedded in the body.

The 4 stages of the drama cycle.

The physical and mental costs of drama addiction, its impact on relationships, and how to heal from it.

What's your relationship to drama? Are you the drama queen in your circle, or do you claim to hate drama while finding yourself caught up in it anyway? Or do you strive to keep your own life peaceful and stay out of other people's business?

The truth is, we all thrive on drama a little bit, even if we think we don't. And how can we not? From reality TV to social media, we're constantly bombarded with sensationalized stories and conflicts.

And while it may seem harmless, it deregulates the nervous system, creating more stress and less peace, which can lead to mental and physical health issues.

So how do we get ourselves out of this drama cycle?

That's what we're talking about today.

Our guest is Dr. Scott Lyons, a licensed clinical psychologist and mind-body medicine practitioner who specializes in therapies for infants, youth, and adults. He's also the author of "Addicted to Drama: Healing Dependency on Crisis and Chaos in Yourself and Others." He's going to give us practical tools and strategies to break free from the cycle of drama addiction and find a path toward healing and wholeness.

5 minutes in and I can’t stop listening

Melissa feels like a best friend you’re chatting with over lunch. Within minutes of listening I was totally hooked and drawn in to her personal story sharing. Relatability is so important now and not everyone has it. Melissa does and it seems very effortless for her. Such a pleasure to listen to her and how she so flawlessly interacts with guests.

The best podcast ever!

Melissa at this point is one of my friends and doesn’t even know me. Her podcast is the only thing I find myself listening to these days. Her ability to ask the right questions and willingness to be vulnerable makes for an educational and relatable listen that has comforted and entertained me the last 4 years!! She actually uses the products she’s sponsored by and I love how transparent she is. In a time when it sometimes feels uneasy sharing your opinions, Melissa offers a safe space that’s still intriguing and inviting. Thank you so much Melissa for all you do and raising great humans! Good luck with your home birth you got this!! Your pregnancy journey inspires me that I too can do this one day💪🏼💓🧸
