I still have a really hard time wrapping my head around the fact that there are people out there who hate me just because I’m black. There are people who will never meet me but if they see me they will hate me because I’m black.

I was 25 when I self dx. Stayed that way for over a year before I finally decided to get a clinical dx (after which, nothing changed. No doors were opened) Self diagnosing enabled me to give myself grace for the past & set myself up for a successful future. #MyAutisticTruth

My sophomore year of high school I started a petition to get a teacher fired because she was racist. She ended up quitting before she could get fired but I feel like that’s still an accomplishment

There also needs to be space for acknowledging the role ableism plays. Lots of alt/weird Black kids are neurodiverse. Ppl will say "you deserved to be bullied for..." and list a whole bunch of neurodivergent traits. Lots of Black disabled ppl faced severe bullying as kids.

Yes, some of the Alt/Weird Black Kids™️ have a superiority complex and internalized anti Blackness to unpack. Simultaneously, folks are being dishonest and belittling the very real bullying and ostracizing that those kids endure. Multiple things can be true at the same time.

I was always one of few or the only black student in any of my classes for elementary and high school. Middle school was my first real exposure to other black and POC students because we lived in El Paso

One thing I will never take for granted is the fact that we have been able to put Aubrey in an African based school ran entirely by black women with 95% of the students being black.
