Avengers (comics)

The Avengers are a fictional team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The team made its debut in The Avengers #1 (Sept. 1963), created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby, inspired by the success of DC Comics' Justice League of America.

Labeled Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers originally consisted of Hank Pym, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and the Wasp. The original Captain America was discovered, trapped in ice (issue #4), and joined the group after they revived him. A rotating roster became a hallmark, although one theme remained consistent: the Avengers fight "the foes no single superhero can withstand." The team, famous for its battle cry of "Avengers Assemble!", has featured humans, mutants, robots, aliens, supernatural beings, and even former villains.

The team has appeared in a wide variety of media outside of comic books including a number of different animated television series and direct-to-video films. The 2012 live-action feature film The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon, set numerous records during its box office run, including one of the biggest opening debuts in North America, with a weekend gross of $207.4 million. A second Avengers film titled Avengers: Age of Ultron was released on May 1, 2015.

White Eagles (paramilitary)

The White Eagles (Serbian: Бели орлови, Beli orlovi), also known as the Avengers (Осветници, Osvetnici), were a Serbian paramilitary group associated with the Serbian National Renewal (SNO) and the Serbian Radical Party (SRS). The White Eagles fought in Croatia and the Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Yugoslav Wars.

In the 2003 ICTY Vojislav Šešelj indictment, the group is included as an alleged party to the joint criminal enterprise to which Vojislav Šešelj is allegedly a party. In the indictment the group is identified as a "volunteer units including 'Chetnik', or 'Šešeljevci' (translated into English as 'Šešelj’s men')". This association has been denied by SRS leader Vojislav Šešelj.

Name

Although the group's members were occasionally referred to as Chetniks, they are not to be confused with the Serbian anticommunist guerrilla group during and after World War II also known as the White Eagles and also referred to as Chetniks. The name White Eagles comes from an anti-communist organisation that was formed during World War II and continued a guerrilla war against Tito’s government after the war. White Eagle refers to the national symbol of Serbia, the double headed white eagle under a crown.

We Are the One

We Are the One is the first EP from the Avengers. It was released on Dangerhouse Records in 1977. It is sometimes referred to as the Dangerhouse EP, referencing the label it was released on. It was recorded in October 1977 at Kitchen Sink Studio. The release had two different covers, with the first pressing including the 'crucifixion' cover, while later pressings included the 'target' cover. All of the songs on here are also on the 1983 album Avengers. The single was later re-released on Frontier Records.
