Emilio and I had quite the road show during the pandemic, as he gamely hit the Zoom hustings to talk about my book and Sesame Street history. Here we are with Robt Seda-Schreiber of the , where Emilio served as a board member.

RIP you proud Chicano, consummate entertainer & sweet man. Emilio Delgado always announced himself on the phone by saying, “It’s Emilio—Luis from Sesame Street.” As if he needed any introduction! He & Sonia Manzano made Latin-American kids feel seen, accepted, and sunny. 💔

Gang, I’m on an aeroplane for the first time in ages. Limbering up in anticipation of having to help the flight attendants duct-tape an unruly passenger!

As we approach the second anniversary of the start of the pandemic, I petition the president to legally subtract two years from the age of every American. Laff along with Korny Kampy in this week’s @newyorker, available at brick-and-mortar shops and your mom’s house.

It’s not that Zelensky is “cool” or “badass” or whatever people are calling him—it’s that he’s a fundamentally good person who, confronted with the worst possible circumstances, is also a man of action. *That*, rather than performative belligerence, is strength and leadership.

Apropos of nothing but much-needed good vibes, permit me to recommend ’s lovely program Somebody Somwhere, which creates a sweet sense of community like no show since High Maintenance. Plus, my brother’s buddy (Hags!) plays Bridget’s dad!

Your much-needed cheer will come from New Orleans’s WWOZ today—and any other day, for that matter. My late friend and part-time NOLA resident turned me on to ’OZ and I’ve been hooked ever since. Tune in and get happy.

Johnny Cash would have turned 90 today. He was the rare artist whose final act (in cahoots with ) was as glorious as any part of his career. In 2004 I met with Rick and , among others, and wrote my best-ever piece, for :

This MTG-style rhetorical overload shows that Putin is not only evil but deeply unserious and more unhinged than he used to be. This is “Downfall” territory.

Don’t take my word for it, listen to acclaimed cooking and hygge authority Signe Johansen—the best accompaniment to sunny days is my book SUNNY DAYS, “The Book That Took Two Years to Find Its Audience.”

I’d never heard “rap” music until last night. I was a little scared tbh, especially of the upside-down man, but that Mariel Bilge has a pretty voice.

The gazpacho levity is kinda welcome & fun—I wrote a book called The United States of Arugula, for cryin’ out loud—but please remember that this experiment in having some of our worst citizens in high elective office is tragic and dangerous and potentially nation-ending. (Sorry.)

True story: in 2014, a young fact-checker at Vanity Fair was checking one of my pieces and she asked me what the Yellow Pages were. That’s when I realized I was no longer remotely young. And was inspired to write this thing below.

So pleased to have purchased and framed these signed prints of ’s GET BACK-inspired Beatles portraits. These are not only beautiful and fungible; 50% of the proceeds from their sale goes to , an Irish children’s hospice.

The huge difference being that the medicine-show suckers at least got to see Buster Keaton and his parents being funny. Rogan’s suckers only get to listen to the freestyle maunderings of a meathead racist who looks like a Central European dictator.

Something I learned from the 2 Buster Keaton bios I reviewed for : the traveling medicine shows Keaton performed in as a kid charged no admission. They were a hook to get punters to buy bogus “cures”—not unlike Rogan using his show to shill dubious “supplements.”

I busted a double move, reviewing two really good new books about Buster Keaton for the NYTBR, by James Curtis and Dana Stevens.

Unlike many of his contemporaries, Buster Keaton never looked down on television, warming early to its potential to reach millions. Two new biographies take on the brilliant funnyman and filmmaker. nyti.ms/34yqmnz
