you don't realise how much he uses the range on one till you try and play one of his basslines. I've also had lots of fun with Stevie Wonder tracks, lots are in Eb

He can be a bit opinionated about "kids these days and their newfangled music", and is often more technical than I can cope with
But generally he's good.

The guys from XTC actually give him the master tapes for Mayor of Simpleton so he breaks it down track-by-track with another musician. It's an absolute joy to watch, though yes - very muso.

( , Thu 13 Jan 2022, 10:23, Reply)
OOooooh, you could be starting a bar brawl with that question
as a musician (not necessarily a particularly good one, but I have played a lot of music)
I'd say an instrumental break was a section of a piece where the vocals are absent. It's about a space being made, it's an arrangement tool. A solo is where another instrument fills the space a vocal may normally occupy, the soloist is in the musical spotlight. Is that fair? A great musician can play few notes, play quietly and leave space but totally occupy the musical attention.
I'm quite wary of bass solos, but an instrumemntal break where the focus is on the bass and drums can be devestatingly effective.

Ah.
In my simple mind, a solo would be just the one instrument or voice.

You're right, but then solo just means alone or single so it's all about context
so piece for solo voice is that - unaccompanied vocal and then you'd be right.
If a piano or guitar plays backing it'd be accompanied solo voice, not duet for guitar and voice. It's all about where the focus lies. In a big choral work you'll have a soloist who will sing with the rest of the choir providing the backing. If all the voices drop out for a section you can call that an instrumental section, but if a violin were to start playing the melody it'll be a solo violin.
Forgive me going on but honestly your question made me think and I wanted to see if I could make sense of what I've always kind of known but never really thought about properly.

Adventure Time is an absolute masterpiece.
I feel it gets overlooked by so many older individuals due to it being passed off as "Just another kid's show" or something that trendy Gen-Z's are into, but it's so much more than that.
The best way of describing it is as a child-friendly show for adults. There's plenty of visual humour and slapstick for everyone to enjoy, but there are so many thematically deep subplots going on throughout the seasons touching on things like morality, loss, narcissism.
It's profound when they start to develop characters like the Ice King and turn him from some wacky baddy in a mountain Fort into one of the most tragic characters you could possibly imagine encountering in a 'Kid's Show'.
It can be a bit of a pain in the arse sourcing all the seasons, but if anyone hasn't given it a go yet, I seriously recommend it.
